This is a 1100 bedded multispeciality tertiary care teaching hospital of North India with the state of art facilities. 60 beds were allotted to Orthopaedics and its sub specialities. Sub specialities included External fixation unit, trauma unit, spine,pediatric orthopaedics,foot and ankle,arthroscopy and arthroplasty units. Our external fixation unit was pioneer in the country to use Volkov Oganesyan’s semi circular ring system. As a training registrar we were rotated among different units with different specialist surgeons.
Besides this our department had a very well structured teaching program for trainees.

As a registrar, managed patients in emergency and opd independently Independently performed surgeries for Trauma emergency, complex and neglected trauma. Performed elective surgeries under guidance in various subspecialty. Also attained teaching experience with guiding and teaching junior registrars.

Undertake duties on 1:3 rota basis; take charge of emergency admissions when on call; manage a wide variety of orthopaedic trauma and routine admissions.
Conduct 2 casualty operating lists per week and an additional four casualty operation lists once in two weekends.
Conduct three routine operating sessions per week
Conduct 2 out patient’s clinics per week (which handles an average of 100 patients a day) and two minor operating sessions per week.
Assist consultant or run independent OR for wide variety of trauma orthopaedics as well as routine orthopaedic operations such as Total/ Partial Hip Arthroplasty (cemented and uncemented), Total Knee Arthroplasty, ligamentous reconstructions of knee, ankle and elbow, correction of DDH, quadriceps contracture, CTEV, calcaneovalgus deformity etc., limb lengthening, major arthrodeses, major osteotomies and correction of pseudoarthroses etc.
Skilled in manipulations of a wide variety of fractures and dislocations
Skilled in open reduction and internal fixation of wide variety of fractures and dislocations of the upper limb such as fractures of humeral head, dislocation of shoulder joint, fracture shaft of humerus, supracondylar and condylar fractures, dislocation of elbow, fractures of the radial neck, fractures of olecranon, fractures of shaft of forearm bones including Galleazzi and Monteggia fractures, Smith’s, Barton’s and Colles’ fractures, dislocation of wrist, scaphoid fractures, metacarpal fractures and phalangeal fractures.
Skilled in open reduction and internal fixation of wide variety of fractures and dislocations of the lower limb such as pelvic fractures including diastasis of pubic symphysis, acetabular fractures, central, anterior and posterior dislocations of the hip joint, fractures of the femoral neck, subtrochanteric, diaphysial, supracondylar and condylar fractures of the femur, fractures of patella, tibial plateau fractures, fractures of the tibial shaft, malleolar fractures and ankle dislocations, talar and calcaneal fractures and Lisfranc’s fractures of the foot.
Skilled in open reduction and internal fixation of a wide variety of fractures and dislocations of spine using AO instrumentation (USS) and Pedicle Screw systems.
Skilled in diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy procedures of knee, shoulder and elbow and ankle.
Skilled in the use of external fixators including ring fixator and Orthoflx, linear fixators (AO) in non unions, bone transport, limb lengthening and angular and torsional deformity correction.
Close collaboration with Orthopaedic Workshop and Department of Physiotherapy in the use of orthoses and in patient rehabilitation.
Close collaboration with Department of Neurosurgery/ Plastic surgery/ General surgery in the management of polytrauma injuries.
