Fracking Boom and Respiratory Health: Evidence from Texas
● Although fracking boom provides almost a million of job opportunities in the U.S., it also has externality on the environment. This project uses shale oil and gas reserves per capita as a measure of fracking potential of an area and difference-in-difference design to estimate the negative effects of fracking boom on respiratory health. The results show that a 100 unit increase of proved reserve is equivalent to 11.8 more respiratory diseases per 100,000 residents. Measuring the Co-benefits of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Technology
(Joint with Andrew Waxman and Sheila Olmstead)
● This project uses a regression discontinuity design and a structural economic model to measure the effects of carbon capture, utilization and storage technology on the local air quality. Does “Tampon Tax” Repeal Help in Redistribution: Evidence from Illinois
● As of 2019, 12 states have passed bills to remove the sales tax on menstrual hygiene products. This paper uses a difference-in-difference design and retailer scanner data to examine the effects of removing “tampon tax” on the sales volume and average price of menstrual hygiene products in Illinois.
