With my extended career in the medical field, before obtaining my RN degree, I had the privilege of caring for and referring patients for specialized treatments, care, and after care based on their specific needs. In doing this, I was able to follow their care and help them navigate the extensive systems of their disease process. I believe the skill and knowledge that I have obtained since then will be beneficial and complimentary to this position.

EXPERIENCE

Amedisys Home Health (Winston-Salem) 06-15-2021 to Present

Working as a RN Case Manager. I admit patients to home health services, discharge patients when the certification period is over. I recertify patients when continuation of care is needed, and I do routine nursing visits, as well as schedule the visits. These visits include wound care, ostomy care, catheter care, education of disease management processes, in home IV management, and assessments to determine other discipline needs. I document patient care information through the PointCare application.

Novant Health Cancer Institute (Winston-Salem) 09-09-2018 to 05-09-2021

Worked as an Oncology Nurse. I was responsible for assisting the provider in the office, using multi-disciplinary communications, triaging calls, doing port draws as needed, doing EKGs, prior authorizations/pre-certs, and placing orders for multiple tests as well as DME equipment. I scheduled appointments, set up patients with financial assistance, and community-based assistance programs as needed.

Wake Forest Baptist Hospital 1/23/17- 6/10/18

Worked as an RN in the Medical/Oncology ICU at the Cancer Center. I gave chemotherapy treatments, blood products, IV medications, continuous monitoring of vital signs, and CRRT. I assisted physicians, PAs, and NPs with procedures, tests, and other POC needs. I maintained arterial lines, central lines, port-a-cath lines, midlines, vascath lines, PICC lines, as well as IV sites and chest tubes, EEG testing, bipaps, ventilated patients, and prone patients. I did EKG’s as well as started IV’s, drew blood, checked blood glucose levels, inserted foley catheters, tube feeding lines, and other tubes/lines when needed. I also did bathing, changing, feeding, turning, and other general care for my patients. I performed after death care for deceased patients and comforted bereaving family members, called Carolina Donor Services to inquire if organ retrieval would be necessary and assisted when needed. I assisted in making the next shift assignments and determining the patient’s level of care.

Worked as a CNA, caring for residents in their home. Assisted with dressing, bathing, toileting, cooking, cleaning, and entertaining my clients. Assisted one resident with her colostomy cleaning and changing the bag.

I scheduled appointments for patients to have surgeries and tests, as well as precertification of those tests and medications if needed, and referred patients to other doctors.

Phlebotomist/Unit Secretary/Cardiac Monitor Technician. I worked in two different areas while at this hospital. The first area being the laboratory where my job consisted of drawing blood, assisting the technicians with running the specimens, ordering tests, taking orders from physicians, and general clerical duties as time permitted. After leaving the laboratory, I worked in the critical and intensive care units as the cardiac monitor technician and unit secretary. My job consisted of monitoring the telemetry units and reading the strips as needed, and I notified the nurses of changes. In addition to this, I also took orders from doctors, nurses, other staff members, and assisted the nurses as needed.

I am a RN, CNA, MA, and Phlebotomist. I can do any nursing skill that is allowed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and National Nurses Association. I can use a computer, telephone, fax, and printer. I can do phlebotomy, transcribe, take orders, read telemetry rhythms, do EKG’s, stress tests, and CXR’s. I can assist physicians as needed, schedule tests and pre-certify those tests if needed with Medicaid/Medicare and insurances, as well as having knowledge of ICD codes and how to use them. I know how to find resources for clients in need of community assistance, and I am very organized with information and appointments. I am a quick learner. I work well with others and I am a team player. I was ACLS certified from 2017 until 2020.
