BIOGRAPHY (abbreviated)
William D. Dutton MD, FACS is board certified in both general surgery and surgical criti- cal care. He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy and Marines for over 17 years where he completed 6 tours of duty with multiple overseas deployments including a tour in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In 2011 he was appointed Deputy Medical Director and Chief of Surgery at Camp Bastion Hospital. Commander Dutton served as the U.S. officer in charge of a sizable combined U.S service force and coordinating the interop- erability of a multi-nation surgical group in this British led Role III facility. Camp Bastion Hospital saw over 2,600 major traumas during Dr. Dutton’s tour there—making it ar- guably the busiest trauma hospital in the world at that time.
For his service, Dr. Dutton was recognized with the Queen’s Commendation for Valu- able Service as well as a Naval commendation.
Dr. Dutton earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center, conducted his Surgical Internship at the Methodist Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and completed his residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA in General Surgery. He went on the complete Trauma and Surgical Critical Care fellowship at Van- derbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
William continues to serve his country and his community Building a successful level 2 ACS trauma center first as Surgical Director for Intensive Care and as Trauma Medical Director 2016 - 2022 in the Charleston area. He lives in South Carolina’s Low Country with his wife and five children.
