Impact of socioeconomic determinants on chronic diseases among the Canadian adults. (Supervised by Dr. Umut Oguzoglu, Department of Economics, University of Manitoba.)

High blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes are the most common chronic diseases worldwide. The paper focuses on the impact of socioeconomic determinants on these chronic diseases. Probit, heckprobit, and multivariate probit model are used in this study. Estimations are done by using the Canadian community health survey, 2015-2016. Based on the results, aged people have a higher probability of having chronic diseases. Female, higher educated people, and high incomed people have less probability of having chronic diseases. Overweight and smoking are positively correlated with chronic diseases. This study guides the policymaker to consider socioeconomic inequalities before developing new health policies.

Impact of Trade Liberalization on the Export Performance of Four South Asian Countries (Supervised by Dr. Ryan Cardwell, Department of Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, University of Manitoba.)

This study aims to estimate the impact of trade liberalization on export performance in the four South Asian developing countries, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, from 1980 to 2017 through the panel autoregressive distribution lags (A.R.D.L.) approach. The results indicate that in the long run, the overall impact of Liberalization on export is positive. Due to Liberalization, export increases in these countries in the long run. But, in the short run, Liberalization has a positive effect on export but is not statistically significant. In the short run, the export performance of Pakistan and Sri Lanka increases due to trade liberalization.

Macroeconomic determinants of workers' remittance inflow in Bangladesh (Supervised by Dr. Barry Coyle Department of Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, University of Manitoba)

Workers' remittance has a vital role in Bangladesh's economy and is a crucial source of foreign exchange earnings. Time series data from 1976 to 2018 are used in this study. An Augmented Dickey fuller test is conducted to identify whether the data are stationary or nonstationary. After doing the Engle-Granger two-step test and bound test, cointegration is found. ARDL/ECM is used to determine the short-run and long-run relationship between workers' remittance inflow of Bangladesh and macroeconomic determinants of remittance inflow. In the long run, the number of migrants, the host country's G.D.P., C.P.I. of the home country, Per capita G.D.P. of the home country, the home country's exchange rate positively affect the workers' remittance inflow in Bangladesh. In the short run, there is a positive relationship between the current years' remittance and previous years' remittance. A negative short-term relationship is found between remittance & seven host countries' weighted G.D.P., remittance & seven host countries weighted G.D.P. Per capita G.D.P. and C.P.I. of Bangladesh also have an inverse relationship with remittance inflow in the short term. Granger Causality test shows no endogeneity problem in the model.
