Served as the inmate grievance coordinator for the State of West Virginia’s Correctional System. This entailed dealing with complaints related to all aspects of daily prison life. Ranging from issues with food service to threats of bodily harm. However, most were dealing with race and sexual based discrimination claims related to assigned housing and employment opportunities. Another substantial aspect of my duties was to ensure compliance with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, by both staff and offender. My duties also included answering all inmate disciplinary appeals which required extensive knowledge of various case law precedents, specific policy directives, and individual institutional operating procedure. I also prepared and reviewed evidence for submission to various court systems, as well provided testimony when required.

Served as the Electronic Monitoring Coordinator for the Parole System for the State of West Virginia. Established Policy and Procedure for the implementation of West Virginia Parole’s Home Confinement Program. This required me to assist officers with training in a group setting as well as inside of offender residences. I reviewed all program participants monitoring logs daily and was required to alert various law enforcement officials regarding violations. I also was responsible for reviewing the work done by Parole Officers regarding compliance with established protocol .A substantial duty was implementing an accounting system to track all monies that were collected as required by either court order or parole agreement. Normal averages were $10-15,000 monthly. This information, as well as all money collected, had to be tendered to the state auditor’s office through an approved process. I also prepared reports as well as testimony regarding offender violations in the proper venue.

This position required extensive interaction with the public regarding all vehicle and driver’s license actions as required by state law. I was certified as a driving examiner, provided title work information, processed vehicle renewals, reviewed medical information tand conducted investigations to ensure compliance with all requirements of the federal Commercial Drivers Licensing Program. As such, I was required to handle money and balance a cash register and the end of every shift in accordance with established state accounting procedures.
