James Coblentz’s editing career covers a long and diverse background in film. From theatrical feature films, television, trailers, commercials, music videos and documentaries, he has done it all. He has also run post-production at Kaleidoscope Films, which at the time was the busiest trailer house in Los Angeles. He oversaw all post production as well as producing all the “making of” documentaries. He also ran post- production at M.C.E.G. He was brought in because of his vast knowledge of visual effects and specifically to supervise the visual effects on “Look Who’s Talking”. He stayed on to re-organize their post-production department. He worked with the noted documentary director Marshall Flaum on numerous Hollywood tributes to such legends as Bing Crosby, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, He has worked with such acclaimed talents as Barbra Streisand and Martin Ritt on “Nuts” to Cheech and Chong on “Still Smoking” to being instrumental in creating the visual style for the successful film franchise “Final Destination”. Serious dramas, to slapstick comedies, action thrillers, horror, romantic comedies, music documentaries and coming of age films are all part of his repertoire. In television he is just as accomplished having cut numerous T.V. movies, episodic one-hour dramas, pilots, and documentaries. From “Life Goes On” to X-Files” to “The Fugitive” to ”Prison Break” and “24” James has worked with the best in TV. He edited the celebrated documentary series WWII HD, BBC America’s “Intruders” and Netflix “Hemlock Grove”. While at Casablanca Records and Film-works, James directed music documentaries, among them “Angel At Midnight”. He also made music videos for various artists, including Donna Summers, Kiss and Village People. He has been nominated 3 times for an Emmy and has won two International Monitor Awards.
