PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Postdoctoral Fellow, University of South Florida, February 2021 – present

Purification, biological evaluation, and characterization of metabolites extracted from pine rosin:

By using flash chromatography, MPLC and HPLC fractions of metabolites are isolated

The isolated fractions are then tested for TNF-α and COX2 activity

The fractions having the most promising activity are further purified to identify which specific molecules are the most active

Such purified metabolites are characterized via mass spectrometry and NMR

By using chromatographic editing anti-inflammatory formulas are generated by keeping the active molecule and eliminating the toxic molecules

The most active fractions are then tested for permeability assays (PAMPA)

Graduate Student, Hunter College/Brooklyn College, August 2015 – January 2021

Identification and synthesis of molecules against drug abuse:

By using structure activity relationship, a molecular scaffold has been rationalized

Docking simulation to identify potential effective and selective molecular candidates

Synthesis of Dopamine D3 receptor selective antagonist. This receptor has been discovered to be present only in a specific region of the brain (i.e. nucleus accumbens) and to be involved in drug-seeking and drug-craving behavior

Researcher Aboca S.p.a., Sansepolcro (Italy), February 2015 – July 2015

Research and development of methods for quantification of total polyphenol in artichoke leaf

Research and development of methods for quantification of total polyphenol and tannins in agrimony flower top

Quantification of total flavonoids in orange

Quantification of the concentration of total flavonoids in hawthorn

Administrative Assistant Biella Hospital (Italy), August 2014 – January 2015:

Management of the purchase and installation of medical instrument within the hospital:

Claim documentation to companies

Supervision of the documentation provided by the companies

Control of payments and deposits

Publication of tender notices and results on the website

Research Assistant Brooklyn College, July 2013 – June 2014:

Synthesis of potential anticancer molecules:

By using common methods, I synthesized gold-thiolate complexes to be attached to titanium complexes to synthesize heterobimetallic complexes. Those complexes may have special interest in anti-cancer research

Characterization of gold-thiolate complexes by NMR and IR

General organization of the lab

Weekly reports and monthly presentations of my experiments

Research Assistant Columbia University & John Jay College, September 2012 – June 2013:

Isolation, characterization and determination of absolute configuration of chiral organophosphates:

Enantiomeric separation of chiral organophosphates by using HPLC. Enantiomers of organophosphates have been separated from racemic mixtures commercially available. The separation has been performed through chiral column, modifying the following factors: flow, mobile phase, temperature, pressure

Spectroscopic characterization of chiral organophosphates by using optical rotatory dispersion (ORD), electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD)

Determination of the absolute configuration of chiral organophosphates by comparing experimental spectra with theoretical spectra, previously calculated with quantum chemical predictions

Research Assistant University of Bologna, Italy, March 2012 – July 2012:

Analysis of fluorescence of Lawsome's derivates properties and application to fingerprint detection

Synthesis of macromolecules using desoxyguanosine and porphyrins

Pharmacy Intern Bologna, Italy, October 2011 – February 2012:

Provided medications and associated services

Preparation of creams and solutions

General organization of the pharmacy and inventory stock

Pharmacy Intern Valencia, Spain, June 2011 - September 2011:

Provided medications and associated services

General organization of the pharmacy and inventory stock
