Enforce rules and regulations, conduct assessments and inspections, investigate suspicious activities and violations, resolve inmate conflicts, and monitor the inmates' progress in programs. Under direction, supervises the activities of staff in a correctional facility; ensures inmate safety and security; coordinates inmate programs; assists a Lieutenant in managing a detention facility; and performs other work as required. Enforces rules of conduct among inmates and learns when to prepare reports of infractions. Operates manual and electronic locking systems. Subdues and restrains inmates during fights, riots and escape attempts. Assists in the search for escapees, their capture and return to the institution. Investigate alleged rule violations and inmate conflicts, identify and resolve problems that interfere with the prison’s day-to-day operations and make sure that prison equipment, such as its arsenal of weapons, remains in good working order.
