DESCRIPTION:

Existing buildings which consume a huge amount of energy should adapt to bioclimatic design through energy efficient refurbishment in order to improve their environmental performance and reduce the amount of energy they consume as upgrading old buildings to meet principles of the bioclimatic design is an effective way to reduce the energy use. Energy efficient improvements provide the most cost-effective options to meet energy challenges and have the other benefits such as increased comfort better health conditions, cost savings, increased energy security, job creation, and diverse business opportunities.

Another problem that deserves attention is supply of water in the building, from the hydrological data and using statistical analysis the amount of rainfall that can be harvested from the roof of the building is compared and suitable rainwater harvesting structures in the form of ground level tanks which are planned and designed to mitigate the water problem in the building. The present study involves in assessing the amount of energy consumed in the building in its present form or implementing the conditions in the present design and the suggesting suitable energy conservation measures and planning and design of solar energy system to the building.

Various aspects such as details of electric equipment used, tariff paid, possible energy efficient replacements, solar system components are discussed as a part of the study. All the necessary precautions were considered and latest code book procedures were implemented in design.
