Image Classification – Convolution Nueral Network (Cats vs Dogs)
• A binary image classifier that determines whether an image contains a dog or a cat.
• The classifier is a five-layer convolutional neural network built using TensorFlow's Keras API that was trained on 25,000 images of dogs and cats. It achieves a testing accuracy of 95 percent.
• Challenges: The first time that I have trained the model, I figured out that my model achieves only 82 percent of validation accuracy. After that, I tried to tune some hyperparameters - epochs, learning rates, network depth,.. but my accuracy would not go above 90% and the test result was our model got two wrongs from ten images.
Finally, I decided to re-use the model weights from pre-trained models that were developed for standard computer vision benchmark datasets, in this case was InceptionResNetV2. The test result turned out to be very accurate, even with some of cats and dogs drawings.
