Project Title: Power Flow Control in Islanded DC Microgrids Key Profile:
Motivation: DC microgrids are more energy-efficient than AC distribution systems when implemented with distributed generation such as photovoltaic panels, and their advantage is more pronounced with DC load profiles. A method for controlling the power flow in islanded DC microgrids employs droop control via the virtual resistance model. This project investigates the use of metaheuristic optimization for tuning the droop control parameters that lead to efficient decentralized DC microgrid operation.
Desired Needs: Design, implementation, and testing of a metaheuristic solver for tuning DC microgrid droop control parameters.
Functioned as member of senior engineering students’ team involved in developing a graphical user interface application for power optimization in Islanded DC Microgrids using droop control and genetic algorithm.
Deep research on DC microgrids design, feasibility, advantages and power flow control methods.
Software implementation on MATLAB of a user-friendly optimizer for tuning the droop control parameters of DC microgrids.
Verification of the control parameters under different operational scenarios and network topologies.
Comparison of the DC microgrid energy efficiency with minimum loss solutions over different load levels.
