(WORKING INSTRUCTIONS) TESTS TO BE CONDUCTED IN LABORATORY AS PER IS

1.CARBON BLACK CONTENT

To test master batch carbon content and dispersion properties.

PURPOSE: To Check the Carbon Black Content & Ash Content (As per IS: 2530 Cl No. 10)

CONDITION: Ambient

SAMPLE: Sample from HDPE / LDPE Pipe / Black Master Batch

APPARATUS: CBC M/c, N2 Gas Cylinder, Combustion Boat, Weighing Balance, Gas flow meter.

2. CARBON BLACK DISPERSION

PURPOSE : Determination of carbon black dispersion. (As per IS: 2530 Cl No. 16)

Apparatus: Hot Plate, projection microscope (with magnification of 200 10mm), glass slide, tongs.

Sample: specimens of pin-head size.

3. HYDRAULIC HOT PRESS (DENSITY TEST)

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF DENSITY OF GIVEN POLYMER SAMPLE BY USING ANALYTICAL WEIGHING BALANCE.

Sample : more than 1 gm

Apparatus : Analytical balance, beaker, pan, wooden stand.

Chemicals : n- Butyl acetate for PE.

Unit : gm/cm3

4. INTERNAL PRESSURE CREEP TEST

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST (IPCT)

APPARATUS: End Fittings, Hydraulic pressure test machine, Pressure Pipes, Hot water bath

SAMPLE : Length of the sample is 10 times of its OD (min. 250mm & max. 750mm)

5. LONGITUDINAL RIVERSION TEST

PURPOSE : TO CHECK THE REVERSION.

Apparatus : Air Circulated Oven, Vernier Caliper, Scale.

Sample : Sample piece from SPRINKLER &HDPE PIPE (aprrox. 200 mm), LATERAL (approx. 250 mm)

6. MELT FLOW INDEX TESTER

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF MELT FLOW INDEX (MFI). (As per IS: 2530 Cl no. 7)

Requirements : Melt flow index apparatus with accessories, Weighing balance, polymer granules or

Polymer piece.

Unit : gm/ 10 min.

7. OXIDATION INDUCTION TEST

To determine the oxidation induction time and the thermal stability of HDPE material.

Apparatus

1.Aluminum pans.

2. Differential thermal analyzer.(Calorimeter)

3. Sample from pipe 15 +-0.5mg.

4.Nitrogen gas.

5.Oxygen gas.

6.Pure Indium for calibration. (Value lies between 156.6 +- 0.5 degree).

8. OVERALL MIGRATION TEST

PURPOSE : To Check the Overall Migration of the HDPE pipe (As per IS: 9845)

APPARATUS: Air circulation oven, Glass Beaker, SS dish, Hot Plate, Weighing Balance

SAMPLE : Sample piece from HDPE pipe (Approx. 10 cm x 10 cm)

9. UNIVERSAL TENSILE TEST

PURPOSE : TO CHECK TENSILE STRENGTH & ELONGATION BY USING TENSILE TESTER (As per IS: 2530 Cl No. 6)

SAMPLE : Dum bell shaped. (Sample dimensions as per the standard)

APPARATUS: Punching m/c, tensile tester and scale.

10. DENSITY TEST BY DIGITAL WEIING BALANCE

PURPOSE : TO CHECK THE DENSITY BY USING DIGITAL DENSITY TESTER.

SAMPLE : More than 1 gm.

APPARATUS: Digital Density tester m/c, 500 ml beaker, Glass vessel, hanging wire.

LIQUID : Liquid in which sample can completely dipped. (n butyl acetate for PE, Water for PVC)

11. INTERNAL PRESSURE CREEP TEST

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST (IPCT)

APPARATUS: End Fittings, Hydraulic pressure test machine, Pressure Pipes, Hot water bath

SAMPLE : Length of the sample is 10 times of its OD (min. 250mm & max. 750mm)

12. PROJECTION MICROSCOPE

PURPOSE : DETERMINATION OF FLOW PATH OF THE EMITTER. (As per IS: 13487 Cl No 6.2)

APPARATUS: Projection Microscope, Glass Slide.

SAMPLE : Flow path portion of the Emitter.
