I worked at several radio stations here in Hampton Roads and a TV station: WFOG, WGH-Eagle 97; WNOR/WAFX. WB33. Throughout the years my duties were primarily the same in both radio and TV. However, as the years went on and my client lists grew, the work I did became more involved, promotions were larger; clients were now regional and national not just local which meant a far busier calendar. Additional scheduling and, the importance of proper paperwork, postings, and makegoods were of paramount importance.
Constantly searching for new business/categories is as important today as ever. Something that never gets old and always extremely important and just as rewarding –it’s importance is multi-faceted - from accounting for a percentage of annual attrition to keeping personal numbers up and as close to accurate when budgeting.
2 ot many exceptional promotions: a live broadcast from Cancun, Mexico back to the Hampton Roads market with top-rated AM show for Cinco de Mayo. Sponsored by a major beer co, a major airline and hotel group. Another year, I did a promotion giving the winner a Hummer for a year’s lease with new 18- foot speed boat on trailer as NO station dollars spent on these promotions’ prizes; NO commercial inventory used or traded – all promo inventory. The commonality: we received the largest percentage of each client’s annual budget Station recognized at several national industry events. A REAL WINNER for the station – FM99 WNOR!
