PG project: Control of divided wall columns
Area: Advance Process Control
DWC’s are advanced and efficient distillation column for 3 component mixture separation with a partition wall in middle of the column. DWC’s offers 30% less capital investment compared to conventional strategies and energy incentive. Compared to conventional columns, DWC has more interactions within the column. DWC is simulated in ASPEN PLUS. Open loop studies (Step test) are carried out in ASPEN DYNAMICS and data is processed in IDENT tool of MATLAB to obtain transfer functions in turn to identify the system and its specific interactions thus by performing RGA, a Control Strategy is implemented to control the product compositions against disturbances and comparison studies are carried out with conventional thumb rule pairing strategy. UG project: Extraction of dye from lac
Area: Mass Transfer Operations
The pure lac dye is obtained by dissolving technical grade lac dye in mild alkali for removal of insoluble, followed by acidification of the filtrate and finally keeping it for 8 days to complete the process of crystallization. The crystallized dye is filtered, washed and dried (yield approx.0.25% on the weight of sticklac, Purity 95% and above). The purified lac dye is bright reddish in color and soluble in water and has a great potential as natural substitute for artificial coloring agents used in food and beverage coloring.
