PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Business Controller and Financial Manager. Stork, a Fluor company – Remote. 2018 to present.
I have a great team of 9 people, and we are responsible for the relationships with the banks and managing the entire company’s working capital performance. I also have indirect oversight of a team of over 40 people, including four functional leaders (accounting, taxes, insurance, and reporting). A constant and thorough review of the performance and risks of every project in the company, along with keeping a close eye on the overhead costs, are the basis for the overall projections of liquidity and capital needs. My scope includes operations in three countries.
The main achievements in this role so far have been the implementation and improvement of processes in the Treasury and Corporate Finance functions, to be more in line with multinational standards; as well as the evolution of Treasury functions into the banking ‘digital era’. This has included major changes in mindset of the team. I have also been directly responsible for a reduction by 52% in financial expenses for the company in two years, while maintaining steady debt levels; and for creating a structure and methodology for reliable financial forecasting. I manage transactions totaling over 800 MUSD, including payroll for around 15,000 people, per year.
Project Senior Financial Controller, Power Grid (Substations) business unit. Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) – United States. 2015-2017
After working with EPC projects in the Oil and Gas business, in this role I worked in similar projects for the Electrical Substations business. I got to meet a whole new group of customers and a different way of doing projects. I also got to experience living in North Carolina, which was a welcome surprise.
I exclusively managed mega-projects with a total volume of > 400 MUSD, and all project sites were in the US. I was directly responsible for all aspects of project controls, risk management, financial and management reporting. The main achievements here were the improvement of business and project control processes and the successful execution of financial controls for new projects. Key projects: Waterfront S/S 223 (customer PHI – Exelon), San Mateo GIS (customer Pacific Gas and Electric), Browns Ferry Nuclear (customer Tennessee Valley Authority).
Project Senior Financial Controller, Oil Gas and Petrochemicals business unit. Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) – United States and International. 2011-2015
During this time, I was financially responsible for projects in execution out of Houston, TX, and Westerville, OH, for the OGP business unit; I oversaw a small team of controllers who were responsible for smaller projects. I exclusively managed projects over 100 MUSD; total volume was >350 MUSD, project sites were in different parts of the world, including Brazil, Saudi Arabia, India, Norway, North Africa, and the United States. Team development, business consolidation, project risk management, and financial reporting were among my key responsibilities. The main achievement here was the successful application of financial controls and improvement measures for all projects in execution for the business unit. Key projects: Sadara MAC (customer Saudi Aramco-Dow Chemical), Mukhaizna Oman EPC (customer Oxy), QCLNG-Telecom (customer Bechtel). For this role, I was based in Houston, TX, USA.
