Annet is an Agriculturalist with 11 years of experience in implementing, coordinating and managing Food Security and Agricultural Livelihood (FSAL) programs in Uganda. 3 years of that experience are in managing transformational in-farm soil nutrient testing for improved crop productivity project in 5 districts of the south western region (Kasese, Rubirizi, Bunyangabu Kabarole and Bushenyi), 5 years in market development and production for coffee, maize and groundnuts among small holder farmers and 3 years in food security and livelihoods programming targeting smallholder farmers.

Annet has a practical experience in supervision of transformational in- farm soil nutrient testing for improved crop productivity project, farmer institutional development and farmer group marketing systems. I have gained experience in doing this while mainstreaming governance, gender, resilience/Disaster Risk Reduction, Nutrition and rights protection pillars for guiding all FSAL interventions to ensure equity and sustainability of impacts.

Outline

I supervise the Transformational in-farm soil nutrient testing for improved crop productivity Project in 5 districts of the south western region (Kasese, Rubirizi, Bunyangabu Kabarole and Bushenyi) value chain approach to enhance livelihoods of 5,000 farmers from Jabba engineering ltd under soil nutrient testing project. I coordinate farmer institutions under group promoters and Agri -prenuers in the south western region linking them to market, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF) to facilitate soil nutrient testing for improved crop productivity.

I also manage the Jabba engineering ltd in south western region by establishing demonstrations and providing advisory services in line with soil nutrient testing for improved crop productivity.

My Key responsibilities are as below: -

Preparation of strategic and operational plans, supervise project activities, and ensure achievement of targets by the project team

Participation in annual impact evaluations, track and facilitate performance, and ensure timely submission of monthly analysis reports to stake holders.

Supervise the procurement of soil testing kits and performance of the working kits with aBi team.

Recruit potential groups and give them basic knowledge on soil sampling and testing skills.

Train group promoters and farmers using Farmer Field School (FFS) methodology in improved farming methods.

Facilitate linkages of groups to other institutions in relation to agriculture for improved production.

To sample, test soils and implement according to the testing results and recommendations.

To have demonstration gardens of coffee and maize following the testing results.

Receive and review all reports including monitoring and evaluation studies within the labaratory branches in the districts of Bushenyi,Rubrizi, Kasese, Bunyangabu, and Kabarole.

Key achievement/projects

I increased farmer loyalty using farmer institutional development approach registering 590 new farmers and turning to be clients of soil testing for improved crop productivity.

Supported farmers in marketing the highly yielded produce after using the soil testing technology and following up in implementation of the recommendations.

I managed the establishment of 73 Maize and coffee demonstration as per aBi model among a total of 1,836 farmers.

Supported the distribution and supervision of 9 soil testing kits in the south western region.

Outline

I was in charge of implementing an effective agricultural extension system focussing on improving maize and G-nuts husbandry at farm level and coordinating with other project field officer, District authorities as well as assisting small holder G-nuts and maize farmers in developing a viable business approach through producer groups and bulk commercialisation and improving the nutritional level of vulnerable groups by establishing demonstrations of the said crops and kitchen gardens.

Key responsibilities- Under this role I performed the following: -

Recruitment of Producer Organizations (POs) and give them community based management skills.

Training of POs in village saving and loan association (VSLA) formation and support their establishment.

Train PO lead farmers (and OVC care givers) using Farmer Field School (FFS) methodology in improved farming methods, nutrition, home gardening, postharvest handling and storage, farming as a business and supervise their training of farmers;

Facilitate linkages of POs and ACEs with agro-input dealers as well as produce buyers.

Participate, if need be, in selecting the most needy

Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) households to support as well as in selecting OVC caregivers to work with;

Provide written and verbal reports on progress as required;

May represent the project in the District Operations Plan (DOP) meetings and any other as assigned by the supervisor.

Key achievement

I reached out to 3,460 farmers through trainings on maize and G-nuts agronomy forming 163 producer groups and establishing 250 kitchen gardens in improving house hold nutritional levels.

Linked 15 producer organizations to post bank for low- interest loans to boost their agri business especially for maize and G-nuts production in improving their nutritional levels.

Trained 230 farmer group leaders on leadership skills, gender and child rights main.

Facilitated communication between farmers, farmer groups, and the Project management

I negotiated for lower prices during bulk input acquisition by farmers as well helping them to bargain for higher prices for the groundnuts. Groundnuts was sold at an extra average price of UGShs.2,000 – 3,500 per kilo.

OCT - 2015 - Rwenzori Farmers’ Cooperative Union (RFCU), KASESE - (Coffee supervisor – Progresso

Outline

I was in charge of implementing an effective agricultural extension system focussing on improving coffee husbandry at farm level and coordinating with other project field workers, District authorities as well as assisting small holder coffee farmers in developing a viable business approach through producer groups and bulk commercialisation.

Key responsibilities- Under this role I performed the following: -

Trained 463 producer groups on good coffee agronomic practices and coffee quality control.

Trained farmer groups on leadership skills, gender and child rights main.

Supported the formation of 10 farmer depot centres for collective marketing of coffee

Facilitated communication between farmers, farmer groups, and the Project management.

Linked 7 farmers/groups to Centenary banks for low-interest loans to boost their agri-businesses activities.

Formed 50 coffee Demonstration Sites for farmer’s practical sessions in Agronomy.

Key achievement

I reached out to 4,670 farmers through trainings on coffee agronomy forming 463 producer groups.

I managed 10 depot centres through which farmers marketed 150MT of FAQ in local, national and international marketing systems leading to earnings of Ug shs. 1 billion.

Supported farmers to establish 8 local nurseries for raising 300,000 improved coffee seedlings that led to expansion of coffee farms by an extra 460 acres in the project area.

I negotiated for lower prices during bulk input acquisition by farmers as well helping them to bargain for higher prices for the coffee. Coffee was sold at an extra average price of UGShs.500 - 1,000 per kilo of FAQ.

Feb 2011 – Nov 2013 Sub-County National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) Co-ordinator with Kasese District Local Government.

Role Outline.

I coordinated an Agriculture technology and Agribusiness Advisory (ATAAS) project between small holder farmers, Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, National Agricultural Research Organisation to implement agriculture and community initiatives worthy UGshs. 550,000,000 (Five hundred fifty million) focussing on improving food security and market performance of small holder farmers.

Key achievements:

I established 12 higher level farmer producer organizations comprising of 2,800 farmers linking them to markets 295MT of washed coffee in 2years.

Planting of 3800 trees in mitigation of climate challenges with in the working area.

Supported farmers with improved inputs, 670 farmers received 10MT of improved maize seed for planting.

Formed 81 village and savings groups for convenient savings and lending services at community level.

Participated in sourcing Banana bacterial wilt (BBW) and reduced the disease prevalence from 15 % to 5 %. In the working area
