Reservoir Engineering Consulting: Petrel RE Eclipse Intersect Fluid Modeler Petrel Kinetix Shale

Investigated - (i) Shear slip fault reactivation and induced seismicity associated with hydraulic fracturing in the unconventional Duvernay Formation, Fox Creek area, Alberta. (ii) Applied and combined 3D reservoir geomechanical modeling of shear slip fault reactivation associated with hydraulic fracturing propagation and with 3D dynamic reservoir simulation to obtained results supporting that additional pressure buildup of 20 MPa in treatment wells can propagate laterally along hydraulic fractures in Duvernay Formation.

Coupled fluid model, rock physics and production history (covering both injection and production history) of the two wells in the hydraulic fracture model (HFM) and close to fault region.

Created reservoir simulation model using an unstructured production grids where the completions (all stages, pump schedule and treatment designs) as defined in HFM was captured, history matched observed measured data and then simulated the reservoir pressure in INTERSECT to confirm fault reactivation of additional pressure buildup of 20 MPa.

Results helps to quantify changes in fluid pressure and stresses that may result in fault shear slip during hydraulic fracturing, therefore a lead-way to optimizing HFM design and well spacing away from fault to achieve potential contributions from HF operation for increased recovery.

Revived mature, watered-out fractured carbonate Bigoray Nisku D and E pools of Pembina field in western Alberta.

Characterized geological structure, matrix reservoir properties, vugular porosity and natural fractured network of Nisku D and E pools carbonate reefs

Constructed dynamic reservoir simulation model, history-matching process carried out by creating different realizations of the static model to honor well-to-well connectivity and water movement history within pools

Optimized EOR scheme (Solvent Injection) performed by testing scenarios to investigate effect of injection rates and solvent volumes with respect to production pressures and voidage ratios.

Introduced a slug of the solvent in the reservoir instead of continuous solvent injection, then followed with a lean, chase gas: methane (C1).

Analyzed displacement efficiency as a function of efficient well perforation locations in both new injectors and producers resulting in increased recovery (Pulse Oil, Canada, 2019)
