Seattle University Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability Mar 2020 – Apr 2021

I had the opportunity to intern with CEJS at Seattle University during the COVID-19 pandemic, which in itself makes this a unique experience of working remotely on important projects for improving campus sustainability. I work primarily in data analysis on our 2019 University Greenhouse Gas Emissions report, publishing Earth Month event information on the center’s website, writing and organizing Seattle U’s edition of the WAHESC newsletter, and conducting data analysis for the 2017-2020 STARS report. This experience has been a valuable opportunity to be adaptive, independent, and well-organized in working with CEJS to promote campus sustainability in the time of global pandemic.

As a long-time summer camp counselor I have developed the skills of patience, resourcefulness, creativity, and enthusiasm in everything I do in this role to ensure my campers have a fun and safe camp experience. Being able to run camp during the COVID-19 pandemic was a new challenge for myself and the campers as we all collectively had to re- learn how to socialize in this space again and to do so safely with new protocol.

I worked with the dedicated Sage Conservation staff to grow their client base and spread awareness and educate on the subject of water conservation in the greater Seattle area. My work involved creating a survey to assess customer satisfaction with Sage’s services of retrofitting plumbing for more efficient water usage and attend various outreach events hosted by other conservation-oriented organizations in the Seattle area to represent Sage, I also planned an outreach event for Sage to host to get the community involved in water conservation to celebrate World Water Day 2020.

As a camp counselor, I worked with kids with disabilities, adapting my experience and knowledge to make summer camp accessible for kids of all abilities. I planned and facilitated activities such as biking, rock climbing, swimming, hiking, kayaking, and taking the kids on field trips to the zoo and museums around the Seattle area. This opportunity helped me develop my patience, resourcefulness, creativity, and communication skills throughout the summer.
