Professional Summary

I have 30 years’ experience in the field of Construction Health and Safety and Construction Management. I have been associated with Hinkley Point C since 2010, when I was appointed as the senior M and E CDM coordinator. I have also worked with Alstom (now GE) and Cavendish Nuclear looking at Construction Methodologies/ CDM compliance for the HPC contract. I am also experienced in undertaking site roles, as a site Engineer/ Manager and have prided myself in assisting contractors to ensure they deliver their scope of supply, on time, to budget and safely. I have latterly worked with the Bradwell B GDA team and working with the Bradwell B Safety Case application.

Experience

HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER – DEFENCE INFRASTRUCTURE ORGANISATION (DIO) 12/20 to present

Undertook a specific task for gauging the Health and Safety compliance in the South East of England

Developed an action plan for compliance to Defence Standards (JSP 375)

Produced action plans for the 33 sites in the South East to achieve Health and Safety compliance

Worked with Soft FM and Hard FM contractors regarding Health and Safety and Food Safety compliance.

CDM ADVISOR - BRADWELL B NUCLEAR POWER STATION 09/20 to 12/20

Providing CDM advice for the Bradwell B Nuclear power station planning phase.

Input into the nuclear site licencing requirements for the power station.

HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER - CROSSRAIL 01/2020 to 09/20

Worked as client-side health and safety support on the construction of the new Bond Street station.

Undertook site assurance activities related to Health and Safety and CDM.

Liaised with Principal Contractor to close out site observations.

Part of the CDM Health and Safety File close out team.

SAFETY ENGINEER - HINKLEY POINT C- CAVENDISH NUCLEAR 04/2019 to 08/2019

I was working on the new Hinkley Point C (EPR) project providing consultancy for compliance with all UK Health and Safety Regulations in construction, as well as compliance with the design specifications/ contract/ UK/ European and International engineering standards.

This work entailed reviewing individual batches of installation and ensuring that the plant can be installed, repaired, replaced and maintained.

Most of this work was in and around the Nuclear Island area.

TECNICAS REUNIDAS CDM MANAGER - TEESREP BIOMASS POWER STATION 11/2016 to 12/2018

Implemented CDM processes and plan for a Spanish EPC contractor.

Assisted in design assurance to UK Design Regulation and Standards.

Trained almost 200 employees in CDM and how this fitted with their role.

Worked in Madrid with the Principal Designer team to implement CDM design, repair/ replacement principals into the design.

Inclusion of pre-designed and pre-installed ‘lifting lugs' on steel aided safer installation and helped increase productivity by up to 50%.

This was more of a Safety Engineer role than a pure CDM Management role, given the input of my Engineering skills.

CDM ASSURANCE MANAGER - THAMES TIDEWAY TUNNEL - 08/2015 to 11/2016

Responsible for CDM assurance across 25 enabling works site for the Thames Tideway Tunnel.

Undertook scheduled CDM and Health and Safety audits of sites and give feedback and coaching to contractors and NEC Supervisors.

Projects undertaken with no lost time accidents and to time.

CDM MANAGER - ALSTOM 01/2014 to 08/2015

Implemented CDM processes and plan for a French based contractor, working on Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations.

Ran FEED workshops and design team meetings with the different design sections to ensure compliance.

Utilised my previous Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering knowledge to help influence the design to meet requirements of the CDM Regulations plus other UK Regulations and Standards.

This role was more of a Safety Engineer role than a pure CDM role.

This took the form of also looking at Mean Time Between failures to calculate when and how maintenance would be undertaken.

CDM COORDINATOR - MACE 01/2010 to 01/2014

Acted as CDM Coordinator on projects such as Hinkley Point C and Sizewell and DP World, Stanford le Hope

CDM COORDINATOR - NETWORK RAIL

CDM coordinator on the East Coast Power upgrade, York.

CDM COORDINATOR -CROSSRAIL, WSP

Lead consultant undertaking detailed design of Bond Street Station, in London’s West End, providing structural, and M and E Design, environmental management and planning advice. Value £250 million.

CDM COORDIONATOR – CAPITA SYMONDS

Liaised with Westfield, TFL and the Olympic Delivery Authority on the Stratford City development, as part of the Olympics 2012

Led team of 5 CDM coordinators and admin staff on a project with Atkins and Arup in the Stratford Station Upgrade.

Invited, late in the day, to prepare documentation necessary to enable a major cross-European project to start on stime, saving £500,000 contractors costs.

CDM COORDINATOR - COTEBA

Acted as Company Health and Safety Manager

Oversaw and audited to ExxonMobil Health and Safety systems

Successfully implemented ExxonMobil Corporate Health and Safety strategy for all contractors updating and converting Esso’s service stations to the ‘On The Run’ brand of shops.

Managed a multinational team constructing a £650 million, 94 storey tower block.

PLANNING SUPERVISOR OVE ARUP

Undertook multiple Planning Supervisor engagements on multiple accounts, mainly commercial clients based in London.

Health and Safety Manager on multiple projects at Gatwick.

Undertook HAZOP assessment and arranged for relevant training of 2,500 tonne bridge built off-site, then lifted in-situ.

Project won British Safety Council’s Safest Large Construction Site Award, 2003, and bettered BAA’s target of an Accident Incident Rate of 0.2, achieving 1 million-man hours without a lost time accident.

Produced the Health and Safety File for the National Physical Laboratories, Teddington.

DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER - HOECHST TRESPAPHAN

UK’s largest producer of Polypropylene Film.

Liaised with the line and production managers concerning improvements on the production lines and subsequently work with contractors to deliver improvements.

Overcame objections of a sceptical workforce to introduce Failure Mode Analysis, increasing line speeds by 50%, adding £10,000 per hour of extra production to the business.

Analysis subsequently rolled out to 20 similar production lines world-wide.

HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER – BLUE CIRCLE CEMENT

I was the Health and Safety Manager implementing the newly introduced 6 pack guidance to the site, as well as making sure that the site met all current safety requirements.
