Road Construction Materials & Quality Compliance Testing conducted for the Ministry of Public Works Central Materials Laboratory Staff by Cardno under the USAID funded Feeder Roads Alternative and Maintenance Program(FRAM) held in Monrovia, Liberia. The training was conducted in the periods. September 18, 2017 to February 2018.
The training included the following topics:
Basic of Road Pavement Construction Best Practice
Road Construction Soil Materials Testing
In-situ Soil Density & Strength Tests
Concrete Materials Testing & Mix Design (ACI Method)
Bituminous Materials Testing
Bituminous Mix Design (Marshall Method)
Laboratory & Field-based Practical Test Demonstrations
Cement Testing Training, with the substantial production and used of cement, it is imperative that due consideration is given to sampling procedures which will ensure proper evaluation of the characteristics of the cement. Hydraulic cement is an inorganic material or a mixture of inorganic materials that sets and develops strength by chemical reaction with water by formation of hydrates and is capable of doing so under water. Training conducted by Dr. Frederick Were-Higenyi Material Scientist from India/FRAMP/USIAD, Ministry of Public Works, and Republic of Liberia, November 2017 to 2018.
Concrete Mix Design, mix design can be define as the process of selecting various ingredients of concrete, determining their proportions with the objective, of producing a concrete with certain minimum strength and durability and as economically as possible. Training Conducted by Dr. Frederick Were-Higenyi Material Scientist from India/FRAMP/USIAD, Ministry of Public Works, and Republic of Liberia, November 2017 to 2018.
Soil Testing Traing, The preparation of soil samples received from the field for mechanical analysis, physical tests, compaction test. Conducted by Dr. Frederick Were-Higenyi Material Scientist from India/FRAMP/USIAD, Ministry of Public Works, and Republic of Liberia, October 2017.
Concrete Testing Training, This test method covers the procedures for obtaining representative samples of concrete delivered to the project site on which tests are to be carried out for verifying the compliance to project specification. Conducted by Dr. Frederick Were-Higenyi Material Scientist from India/FRAMP/USIAD, Ministry of Public Works, and Republic of Liberia, September 20, 2017.
Aggregates Testing Training, Sampling is equally as important as testing. Sample obtained should show the true nature and condition of the materials they represent. Preliminary investigation tests are obtained by the party responsible for development of the potential source. For the control of production and use at site, samples are obtained at the source of production by the manufacturer, contractor or party responsible for the production or work. Conducted by Dr. Frederick Were-Higenyi Material Scientist from India/FRAMP/USIAD, Ministry of Public Works, and Republic of Liberia, September 18, 2017 to 2018.
