3rd Line SQL Database Engineer

Providing SQL Support at a 3rd Line Support level for many departments across the University. On a day to day basis I am working in the Infrastructure team with strong support ties to Business Systems and the Student Journey Operations teams. Supporting these teams requires a high level of SQL knowledge alongside the Infrastructure knowledge to enable the standard of support required. In the Infrastructure team additional responsibilities include SQL Server administration, backups, restores, creating queries. Liaising with Internal Clients assisting them with the setup and maintenance of databases and queries. I use a helpdesk system as a stream of work, along with Daily BAU tasks (that involve PowerShell scripts to check for disk space and failed backup jobs). I install SQL Server to servers, adhering to a predefined structure and file locations. I setup the users and grant access as (and when) required, using Windows and SSMS. I also apply patches to SQL Servers when available outside of working hours.
