DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CARRIED OUT
NICU
Provide care to sick and premature babies. Regular responsibilities which include administering medications, monitoring vital signs, providing vital nutrients to newborn babies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for newborn infants, and the ability to start and terminate an intravenous (IV)line.
Educate family about the care of new born, feeding techniques, Kangaroo mother Care and provide psychological support.
Managing babies on ventilator support and CPAP.
Use and encourage others to adopt appropriate infection control procedures and maintain work area.
Assisting doctor’s rounds and carrying out the change in treatment plan.
Provide education, information, and emotional support to the patient‘s family and caregivers
ICD care, Colostomy care, Pre and Post surgical care
Use of various modes of oxygen administration.
Providing clinical support and training to staffs and students.
Preparing nursing care plans.
Creating a welcoming, caring and safe environment for babies.
Maintaining accurate stock records, periodic submission of supply requisition and safe storage of vaccine.
Ensure documentation and reporting of all vaccine and cold chain data including vaccine wastage.
Assisting in drafting of monthly progress report PICU
Overseeing patient admissions, transfers and discharges
Supervising nursing staff and monitoring their needs.
Coordinating daily administrative duties including schedules, nursing assignments and patient care.
Mentoring and training new staff and providing support and guidance to all staff members.
Identifying issues or emergencies and responding in a calm and efficient manner.
