1.Relief Hospital is a 300 bedded primary care center. As a resident doctor, my work included history taking, performing physical examination, coming up with a differential diagnosis and treating and managing patients with different pathologies and clinical syndromes both in inpatient and outpatient setting.

2.During my 10 hours shift I made inpatient rounds, managed outpatient department, took care of ICU patients.

3.I attended daily academic classes, clinical meetings, seminars and weekly mortality and morbidity meets at the hospital.

1.I worked as a junior resident in the Gynecology and obstetrics and Cardiology Departments. As a junior resident, my tasks included handling outpatient department and admitting critically ill patients, taking care of patients in my wards, assessing newly admitted patients, taking history, performing physical examination and accordingly treating the patients under the supervision of consultants.

2.While working in cardiology, in the ICCU I worked with the consultants on cardiac emergencies like acute MI, acute pulmonary edema, acute arrhythmias, unstable angina and cardiac failure. In the wards I followed up cases such as hypertension, patients of post PTCA/stenting and diagnostic cath studies

3.In Neuro-ICU I worked on cases of CVA including stroke & TIA, meningitis, GBS, seizures, TB and fungal infections of brain and spinal cord. I also worked on various other post op cases of brain tumor. I actively took part in academic sessions and case discussion.

1.During my clinical internship I was posted in department of internal medicine, surgery & orthopedics, ob/gyn, emergency medicine, social & preventive medicine, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, dermatology, and psychiatry.

2.I was trained to individually handle outpatient cases

3.I worked with consultants on specialty cases in cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, pulmonary & critical care, oncology urology, and hematology. I managed medical emergencies like status epilepticus, anaphylaxis, acute MI & arrhythmia cases.

4.I performed minor procedures like tapping of pleural and ascitic fluid, lumbar puncture, insertion of Ryle’s tube and Foley’s catheterization.

5.I did daily dressings for post op patients, cellulitis and amputation cases.

6.I performed minor surgeries like corn excision, lipoma and ingrown toenail removal, I & D, and suturing.

7.I assisted surgeons in thyroidectomy, mastectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia and hydrocele repair operations.

Volunteer Experience:

Janma bhoomi Program; Healthcare volunteer: 4/2005-8/2007

1.As a part of this government program, my team made door to door field surveys every three months in the underprivileged areas noting living and health conditions, population statistics, and income sources with number of dependants.

2.Every Wednesday, we provided free immunizations for newborn and children.

3.On fridays, we conducted clinics for women on family planning, free pregnancy testing, and pap smears along with CBC and urine analysis.

Mother and Child health: Health care volunteer: 3/2005-6/2008

1.As part of mother and child program, I volunteered my time visiting many rural health clinics along with other medical students and doctors to provide information about health issues.

2.We helped to educate the locals about the important matters such as family planning, STDs and hygiene.

3.We also took time to provide these less fortunate people with brief medical checkups and free family planning measures like condoms, diaphragms and copper T.

National Pulse Polio Immunization program; Healthcare volunteer: 6/2004-12/2008

1.The National PPI program took place for two days twice each year. It is sponsored by the world health organization in association with the government of India.

2.I served as a healthcare volunteer each year from 2004-2008.

3.As a volunteer, my duties included taking brief immunization history and administering polio vaccines to children.
