Treating people how they want to be treated is the base value at which I develop new skills. I’ve worked all kinds of customer-facing positions and the one thing that brings them together is how to treat another human being. From working with a customer to solve a problem with efficiency and compassion, to making sure work is completed in a thorough manner, everything that I do in the workplace either makes someone’s day or adds to their workload. Skills that I’ve adopted in the workplace range from general sanitation to enhanced COVID-19 protocol, to time management, to managing buyer accounts and inventory, to quality inspecting lab work and ensuring a satisfactory end product for the patient. I am well-versed in quality control; I spend about one hour each workday checking in patient orders that come back to the office from our contracted labs to verify that all measurements are correct and the lenses are made to order. I verify all measurements by hand because I care about the end result. As someone who also requires glasses for improved quality of life, I take pride in giving the patient exactly what they expect from a reputable and trusted office. I also know how to sell a frame that’s the perfect combination of style, comfort, and prescription optimization for each patient that I work with. Not only do we want glasses to look good, but they must also work well. I am also the lead buyer on my office’s more expensive, handmade brands. San Diego Miramar College - Graphic Design & Art History I began my college career with a focus on graphic design with the intent of earning a degree in merchandising, but my interests shifted to art history as I found myself interested in how humanity carries on with art as a constant reminder of who we are and where we’ve been. Currently preparing to get back into my studies with an education in geology to indulge my first dream job - paleontology. Awards
As an ambassador to the now-established Optician Apprenticeship program, I grew into a role I never would have pictured myself in, but found that I excelled in and actually enjoyed! I earned my certification in August of 2018 and have continually built upon that foundation ever since.
