Grant Activity

Vogel-Rosbrook C.A., The Occurrence and Fate of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDC’s) in Selected Water Samples and the Effects on Mammalian Tissue, is continuing research of 2010 Fates of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDC’s) in Various Water Samples. State University College at Oneonta Student Research Grant; 11/2010 - 04/2011. Specific Aims: 1. Further investigate the fate of EDC’s (synthetic estrogens and chemicals mimicking estrogenic activity) in various water samples. 2. Estimate the biological activity of the compounds isolated in the water samples. 3. Water samples are purified and analyzed via High Performance Liquid-Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy

(GCMS). 4. Employ the mouse uterotrophic bioassay to measure the biological effect of EDC’s found in water samples. 5. Evaluate and determine if known concentrations of estrogenic compounds found in water samples negatively effect mammals. In Fall 2010 – Spring 2011, water samples were obtained from various locations in Central New York and concentrations of compounds exhibiting estrogenic structure were calculated. The project is currently undergoing ongoing research by current Oneonta University students. The next step is to conduct the mouse uterotrophic bioassay to determine the effect of known concentrations of estrogenic acting compounds on mammalian tissue. References
