United Launch Alliance

RE: Systems Engineer 1

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the Systems Engineer 1 position at United Launch Alliance. To be a part of our nations revitalized space program is an amazing opportunity and one in which United Launch Alliance is at tip of the spear. I have a unique engineering perspective utilizing a broad set of skills ranging from electrical and hydraulic system design to root cause analysis and project management. The development of these skills has required a heightened attention to detail as well as the ability to gather associate buy in and analyze large amounts of data for comprehensive solutions for our customers. As a Quality Engineer, I focused on root cause analysis and data analysis to determine process and component inefficiencies and failures. A few key projects that I was given as a Quality Engineer were the re-design of our Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI) process and national field campaigns. I led a team to develop and implement the first PDI modularization inspection process at Altec Industries. This modularization allowed for a more structured audit process, redefined the training process, increased process flexibility and reduced audit times. These results increased audit throughput, created the foundation for deep dive modular defect analysis, and increased our ability to ensure customer requirements had been properly captured in the assembly and manufacturing processes. I also successfully led 2 national field campaigns consisting of local and national team members over the course of a two-year period. Throughout these campaigns I was responsible for supply chain management, iterative component design and testing, coordination between field service teams and customers, technical installation instructions, and weekly progress reports for both Altec management and our customers. Our success helped to strengthen our relationship with our customers and ensure long term contracts for the future.

As a member of our Applications Systems Engineering team, I was responsible for the development of electrical and hydraulic system schematics, electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting, component testing, customer specific bill of materials and technical work instructions. During my time with the applications department, I was able to further develop my skills in Solidworks, Draftsight, Siemens Teamcenter and hands on electrical/hydraulic troubleshooting skills.

I am extremely passionate about the exploration of space and its contributions to both on and off world technologies. I look forward for an opportunity to contribute to United Launch Alliance’s upcoming missions and product development. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing back from you about the Systems Engineering 1 opportunity.

Sincerely,

Jeremiah Louis Maynard
