Case: 375770 P56854 / Ref: G Kelatwang 19 February 2021 Dear Ms Nzima

REGISTRATION AS PHARMACIST'S ASSISTANT (POST-BASIC) I have pleasure in advising you that you have been registered as a pharmacist's assistant in the category pharmacist's assistant (post basic), with effect from 19 February 2021, and are authorised to practise in the category Community Pharmacy, in terms of the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974. Your registration certificate is enclosed. This certificate must be displayed at all times in the pharmacy where you are practising.

In terms of the Regulations relating to the practice of pharmacy, you may perform the services or acts under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy. These services and acts are detailed under the scope of practice of a pharmacy support personnel, Regulation 11 and 12, and may only be performed in accordance with the principles of Good Pharmacy Practice and the provisions of applicable legislation including the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act 101 of 1965. It is important to note that the re-packaging of medicine except on a patient specific basis, is not at present permissible in terms of Act 101 of 1965. Furthermore pharmacist's assistants may only handle medicines and scheduled substances as prescribed currently in Act 101 of 1965. In order to remain on the register of pharmacist's assistants (post-basic), it is necessary for you to pay an annual fee. Your attention is drawn to the fact that in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 1974, your name may be removed from the register of pharmacist's assistants (post-basic) for a number of reasons. These reasons include -

(1) failure to pay your annual fees within three months of the date on which the annual fee became due, and

(2) failure to comply with the requirements and conditions for registration as a pharmacist's assistant (post-basic).

Council must be advised in writing of any change with regard to your in-service training as a pharmacist's assistant. Please be advised that if you wish to practice in another category of pharmacy e.g. Institutional Pharmacy, you will be required to undertake a further period of four months of in-service training in the new category of pharmacy, in addition to obtaining competence in any additional unit standards required in the new category. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if you have any enquiries in this regard. Yours faithfully
