• Perform visual acuity, EOMs, muscle balance, pupillary assessment, confrontational fields, refraction, retinoscopy, tonometry (applanation and tonopen) and instill drops in patients eyes
• Perform OCTs, VFs, IOL Master, autorefraction and topography on patients when needed
• Follow the doctors as a scribe, recording exams for the doctor, assisting as needed in minor procedures, and billing exams
• Perform light cleaning duties around the office as needed
• Collect inventory on samples, injections as needed
• Passed the COT certification exam in September 2020. Passed scribe certification exam November 2019.
Surgical Counselor
• Counsel patients prior to Cataract, DSAEK/DSEK/DMEK, Superficial Keratectomy, MP3, TSCP, AGI, and various other surgeries.
• Schedule patients for their surgeries and follow ups.
• Coordinate with patient's PCP for clearance prior to surgery.
• Work with insurance and prior authorizations to ensure coverage for patient's procedures.
• Review pre and post surgical measurements to ensure accuracy
• Run lenses through IOL Master to aid in lens decision for cataract surgery
• As of February 2021, I have stepped down from this role to return to the technical department as a COT and scribe.
