Resume:

We have been super busy in room **. Our police liaison presented yesterday morning and the students learned some valuable information. Below are the happenings in fourth grade.

Math- We are finishing unit 6 today, and the unit test will be next Wednesday. I am passing out the study guide today and it will be due on Tuesday. There will be time to work on it on Monday in class. We will correct it together and then I will conduct strategy groups if needed. Our next unit is multiplication of fractions and measurement concepts. After the fourth graders complete unit six, they will take the cumulative assessment. This assessment will not have a study guide. We will start that assessment next Friday.

Reading- The students are working hard in their historical fiction book clubs. The groups have been sharing their thoughts and have displayed responsible behavior by being prepared for their discussions.

Writing- The kiddos are working hard in the literary essay unit. We just flash drafted another version today. We will continue with the writing process and hopefully publish next week. The Opinion district writing assessment will be administered on April 22nd. Our next writing unit will focus on The American Revolution.

Science- The students are close to finishing the energy transfer unit. I have an assessment scheduled for Tuesday April 20th. This will be an open note test. The students will be able to use their journals to complete it.

Social Studies- We will start the economics unit after we complete the science unit. This is the unit that the kiddos have been waiting for. We will have Market Day, more information to come about that event!

M-Step state assessment- The students will be taking the M-step test this spring. I have the week of April 26th scheduled for it. Fourth graders are required to take the ELA and math portion this year. We will use mornings as our testing time. I have the entire week scheduled for the assessment so the students do not become overwhelmed. I will allow students to chew gum during the M-step test.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mr. Schaffner
