To Whom it May Concern,

Re: Ms. Simaran Kaur Sidhu

I am pleased to provide this letter of reference in support of Simaran. I am an Associate Professor at the University of Leicester. My research consists of Drug Policy, Human Rights, Criminal law, Criminology and Criminal Justice. Simaran is a final year student in my Criminal Law tutorial group during the 2020/2021 term, which has allowed me to have a good insight into her intellectual and personal abilities.

Simaran always actively engages in discussions and demonstrates robust critical analysis. She is incredibly focused and always prepared for online tutorials. Equally important, she is respectful to her classmates' and of others' opinions. Unsurprisingly, she has received strong marks in her Law degree thus far. For example, she has achieved a First-Class Honours mark in Contract Law, and I see no reason as to why she should not go on to achieve the same in Criminal Law and in her other final year modules. I believe that Simaran's motivation to succeed is powerful. She has a strong commitment to gaining knowledge of the legal profession and has taken the initiative to acquire the skills required. Simaran is involved in an impressive array of extra-curricular activities including being a peer mentor at the University of Leicester, a volunteer for a stop and search campaign and she is the Treasurer of the University of Leicester’s Amnesty International Society. Simaran’s hard work and dedication is matched only by her positive attitude. Simaran is a pleasure to teach, she is friendly and professional in her interactions with her peers and lecturers.

In sum, I believe that Simaran is well equipped to excel in her legal career. She continues to demonstrate the ability to manage the challenging workload of her LLB degree, she has strong communication skills, intellectual abilities, and a dedication to succeed. I recommend her without reservation.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information. Yours faithfully,

Dr. Melissa Bone

The Race Equality Centre in Leicester and Leicestershire 11th February 2021

Reference for Simaran Sidhu

To whom it may concern,

The Race Equality Centre is a voluntary organisation that was established under the name of the Leicester Racial Equality Council in 1991. We exist to challenge discrimination as defined by the Equality Act 2010 and further strengthened by the Human Rights Act 1998.

Our mission is: "to actively promote and seek to implement a racially just, fair and equitable society which will enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Leicester & Leicestershire" I first met Simaran when she visited the Race Equality Centre, eagerly seeking a volunteer opportunity. I was keen to bring her aboard the Stop and Search Campaign project after hearing her insights. During her time on the project, she spearheaded a collaborative development with University of Leicester Software Engineering students and provided us with fantastic insight to improve the efficiency of processes, improving design and pioneering methods to quantify the interaction between individuals and the platform. Her contribution was invaluable, and her communication skills were exemplary. Our goal was, with the assistance of students, to create a mobile application which both educates and informs young people of their rights and responsibilities when they are stopped and searched by the police. This would also enable a filming feature that sends the footage to us as a means to make a formal complaint with regard to the treatment received by the individual. I found Simaran to be a passionate leader and team player, analytical and creative in her approach, and most importantly very pleasant to speak with. She has a very lovely disposition which would benefit her greatly in any environment.

I have no hesitation in recommending Simaran as a worthy addition to any organisation. Sincerely,

Anamaria Garcia
