Lecturer in Microbiology and Parasitology
Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
I was responsible for teaching microbiology of the medical and dental students. In addition of that the specimen referred from the hospitals were processed for the special investigations and organisms that were difficult to identify in the laboratories of the lab medicine.
I was assigned to teach virology to the students and it was very tough job to make the students understand the abstract viruses with the help of the pictures given in the books. I then developed and prepared the models of the viruses at this time using the expired and damaged X Ray plates specially to teach the students the structure of Icosahedron first. The using the marker pen I initially further developed the concept of the capsomeres present at the apices as pentamer and at the surfaces as hexagon. Instead of telling them the mathematical formula how the numbers are calculated I just arranged that during the practical classes the student calculate those numbers. The models of the ball shaped viruses also were prepared by me using transparent plastic balls and placing small electric wires in side to depict the RNA or DNA in these models. I showed them Soccer ball and explained them the structure of the soccer ball during that exercise. I further explained the small Picorna virus and it's structure so that they could remember the subject in a better way and for longer time.
