At the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, I worked in three divisions: Juvenile Delinquency, Child Protection, and Criminal Appeals.

In my current role, Juvenile Delinquency, I screen, file, and prosecute a variety of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to class X felonies; that are committed by youths under 18 years old. During this role, I was promoted to first chair, supervise another attorney, manage a caseload, run the court call, and have taken 38 cases to resolution, which includes 2 bench trials.

In Child Protection, I prosecuted civil cases in which minors, under the age of 18, were alleged to be abused or neglected by the action or inaction of their parents or caretakers, or were dependent because they were without a parent or caretaker. During this role, I also managed a caseload; assisted running the court call; and took over 36 cases to adjudication, disposition, or termination of parental rights. I also personally handled numerous other substantive hearings, including temporary custody hearings.

In Criminal Appeals, I drafted responses to 11 appeals to ensure that rightful convictions and sentences were maintained. Some of the types of cases included burglary, armed robbery, attempted murder, murder, and several others. The issues I responded to included alleged excessive sentencing, improper admission of other crimes evidence, unduly suggestive identification procedures, prosecutorial misconduct, improper jury instructions, insufficient evidence, judicial error, ineffective assistance of counsel, improper searches and seizures, and more.

Volunteer and community outreach activities including volunteering with Heartland Alliance FarmWorks and competing in the Race Against Gun Violence.

Research Associate for the Department of Energy, Coast, and the Environment August 2014 - August 2015

Performed extensive quantitative and qualitative research and wrote for peer review and publication.

Conducted an empirical analysis on the pipeline network in the Outer Continental Shelf ("OCS") of the Gulf of Mexico and drafted a series of comprehensive reports.

Tabulated pipeline activity statistics and created models that quantified and improved the understanding of the OCS pipeline network's costs, data, trends, and other characteristics.

Reviewed and summarized major legislation, as well as administrative and federal court opinions.

Summarized and analyzed OCS pipeline tariffs and transmission costs effective between 2003-2014 by reviewing corporate filings, financial statements, and other documents.

Described pipeline operators, construction, and installation techniques used in the OCS. Documented the predicted lifespans of offshore pipelines and the technologies and techniques utilized to extend that duration.

Research and Development Center Intern May 2013 – August 2013

Conducted research on telematics, big data analytics, predictive modeling, and the technologies’ possible effects on the insurance industry. Drafted a white paper recommending an underwriting business strategy.

Worked on a team that developed a data-mining process to quickly identify, document, and patent new business and intellectual property ideas. Reviewed over 1,000 ideas that had been submitted to the State Farm idea bank, and reviewed State Farm patent applications.

Led an application design project and created a business model that utilized the current State Farm Bank infrastructure. Researched the State Farm product profile, likely competition, potential for product differentiation, and possible legal barriers.
