For the past 5 years, Colin has been involved in communications planning and operations within the headquarters, armored and aviation environment. A full time soldier, who utilizes his friendly and professional demeanor in order to obtain unit/formation goals through training and in operations. As a full time troop Warrant Officer, Colin effectively managed administration, manning and operations at the troop level in support of his brigade. As a troop Warrant Officer, Colin managed upwards of 70 personal through training and operations planning with both brigade level II secure radio and IT communications infrastructures.

Role: SIGNALS COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR/PLANNER June 1991 – Present

Project: Tactical / Strategic Communications

Tasks Performed:

Provided military communications to various tactical and strategic organizations at Platoon/Troop to Brigade level headquarters.

Liaised directly with national and international military, civilian and NGO agencies in various operational capacities.

Involved with numerous IT tasks within the Canadian Forces, and abroad with NATO HQ in Brunnsum to include a major rollout of Windows Vista on the NATO Unclassified network. Senior member of the Functional Area Software and Web Services team.

Qualified junior web designer with HTML, and various web development applications.

Senior signals planner for armoured intelligence reconnaissance group in Afghanistan for two deployments. Provided communications planning and support to operations during missions while on operation to include cryptographic material and communications specific planning throughout. Sole responsibility for providing long range VHF HF tactical radio & IT planning and support, as well as providing communications operating instructions to local and international NATO organizations.

Brigade Command Post Warrant Officer for two years. Responsible for manning, planning and operations for troops support to Brigade command operations infrastructure. To include VHF, HF tactical radio and IT communications planning, training and implementation.

Planned and conducted numerous communication training courses both as instructor, head instructor and course director.

Brigade Signals Squadron IT Troop manager. Responsible for manning, planning and implementing IT helpdesk and deployed networks for LCSS.

Role: Functional Areas Software/Web Services – Network Administrator July 2007 – July 2010

Tasks Performed:

Acted in the capacity of Canada’s IT Representative within a multinational working group from the European region, responsible to provide network administration to the NATO Headquarters community under NATO Communications and Information Systems Services (NCSA).

Managed a multinational Functional Area Software Titles. Maintained Web Services and overall network administrator duties to the entire multinational headquarters sector.

Provided expert technical briefings to IT staff and consultations to multinational staff members on a daily basis, having a major impact on the facilitation of network services.

Worked closely with multinational military members and provided leadership to other members of the IT teams to ensure service level agreements were maintained.

Responsible for IT maintenance, duty network administered ticket tracking, conditioning, server side implementation, upgrades and client side services including but not limited to:

oNATO HQ day to day operations.

oNATO network infrastructure changes.

Worked in Help Desk, hardware maintenance and graduated to tier 2 network administration. Tier 2 included duty system administrator ticket controller and maintaining and operating Navy and Air Force situational awareness servers systems.

Note: Held a NATO Top Secret clearance during this assignment.
