Community Service:
2002 Guatamala Medical Mission Trip with Nova Southeastern University College
of Osteopathic
Medicine. Treat the underserved people of the surrounding cities in
Guatamala.
04/02 Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine 2nd
Annual community Health Fair. Myself and several other physician assistant
students provided the community with free blood pressure checks, glucose
checks, and educational pamphlets on risks of diabetes, high blood pressure,
female breast exams and a variety of medications.
02/02 First Annual Nova Southeastern Medical School health fair, to treat the
underserved, of Bell Glade, Florida. I worked side by side with a
pediatrician in the pediatric clinic seeing patients and I also was an
educator at the STD/HIV educational booth.
08/99 University of Central Florida Millennium Health Fair. As part of my duties
as the Health outreach coordinator, I put on a health fair for over 30,000
students,faculty, employees and community residents of Central Florida
with the help of funding from the UCF student government and several
students of pre- med AMSA.
11/98 Community Service Volunteer for Wuesthoff Hospitals yearly “Drive by
Shooting” for free flu shots. For 3 days we provided free flu shots to anyone
riding a bicycle, car, to mobile homes and the homeless who
walked up.
08/98-12/99 For a year and half I lead a group that was passionately involved with
teaching the younger people of the St. Cloud community about HIV and
AIDS. The younger community consisted of grades 6-12 at various Osceola
County schools. Our program was based on abstinence and included a
simple immunological background, cartoon-like graphics, games, real life
stories, question and answer unit, take home pamphlets and self-identity
risk questionnaires.
07/98-07/99 Volunteer, Wuesthoff Community Wellness Clinic, Mobile Clinic, Cocoa, Florida. For a year prior to employment I volunteered on a 40 foot mobile unit that serviced several sites in the central Brevard community. Our community clientele consisted of the homeless, people who worked hard enough to live and support their families, but were without health insurance because they either worked part-time or for a small business. Our patients had to prove financial eligiblity for our services. All of our forms and our sovereign immunity was held in part by the state of Florida. In volunteering for the clinic I learned to registered patients, triage patients, discharge patients, educate patients on medications, blood pressure and FSBG logging, perform EKG’s, phlebotomy, and assist ARNP’s when needed. I volunteered 5-30 hrs per week and had a total of 237 hours of experience.
Outside interests: I enjoy dancing, bike riding, stencil drawing, volley ball, sewing, photography.
