Hello, my name is Gabriela Mia Fonte and I am a soon to be graduate from The New School with a B.A in Journalism and Design and a minor in Photography, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to apply for a position with the New York Post a Digital Features Intern.
When I was a young girl I would attend my grandmother’s dinner parties where I was the only child amongst older people. I would spend the end of the meal impatiently asking the guests whether they were done eating or not, because once everyone finished eating, I was allowed to design dresses for the women of the table. I would go around the table and use the guests dirty satin napkins and lay them on their chest and lap as I explained to them my vision. I would try to drape the napkins to create whatever detail possible out of the little material I had. Every night I told my grandmother that I was dressing her in an emerald silk dress to match the emerald on her finger.
Styling people was the highest form of entertainment for me, so when my parents dragged me to Sunday mass, I didn’t dread it too much. Sitting in a room full of people for an hour allowed me to pass the time by looking at someone and deciding in my head how I would cut their hair and what I would have them wear to emphasize their look. This desire that I’ve had since I was a young girl to create looks and piece together a vision has driven to me to make the career choices that I have. It’s what lead me study journalism and design and photography, which sharpened my focus on fashion and culture writing and styling, my preferred form of curation.
I am confident that my collective experiences from writing for my schools paper, along with the extensive fashion trend reporting I am currently doing independently, have given me the skills necessary to be a great asset to your team. My experience has proven that I thrive in a setting where arts, culture, and fashion are the focus of work, and that I am well equipped to provide meaningful work that is news worthy, solve problems, and manage tasks.
Again, ultimately I am excited to have the opportunity to apply for this position and I believe that I can grow and flourish at the New York Post. If you’d like to schedule an interview with me my email is ********@*********.*** or if you’d like to contact me by phone, my number is 305-***-****. Thank you for your time and consideration of my credentials. Attached is my resume and I am eager to send over writing samples. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Gabriela Mia Fonte
