CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Baptist Health Care Electrophysiology Lab 2013 -Present
Provide direct care for patients undergoing electrophysiology, structural heart and STEMI reperfusion therapy procedures. Lab preformed approximately 600 ablations, 600 device implants, and 100 Watchman device implants for Left Atrial Appendage closure for fiscal year 2020
Ablations of: AF, A-Flutter, Supraventricular Arrhythmias, Accessory Pathways, Pre-Ventricular Contractions, and Ventricular Tachycardia, using radio frequency or cryo ablation equipment
Implantations of: Pacemakers, Internal Cardiac Defibrillators, Bi-Ventricular Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy devices, Micra leadless pacemakers, Linq cardiac recorders.
Implantations of: Left Atrial Appendage closure devices
STEMI procedures: Placement of cardiac stents, balloon pumps and Impella pumps
Pre-procedure responsibilities include: Review of physician orders, lab results, allergies, and H&P. Interpret EKG to determine intracardiac location of arrhythmia, pre-procedure assessment of patient, provide patient and family education. Receive emergent patients from ER or Life Flight and prep for cardiac catheterization procedure.
Intraprocedural responsibilities include:
Procedural sedation, Aldrete scoring, arrhythmia provocation pacing maneuvers using burst pacing, entrainment pacing and extra stimuli pacing to induce A- Flutter, A Fib, AV Node Reentrant Tachycardia, accessory pathway tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. Anti-tachycardia pacing maneuvers, synchronized cardioversion, asynchronized cardiac defibrillation, balloon pump and Impella placement, perform CPR and ACLS, monitor patients’ vital signs
Perform electrophysiology studies to determine patients’ PR, QRS, QT and cycle length intervals, Sinus Node Recovery Time, Corrected Sinus Node Recovery Time, Atrial Ventricular Cycle Length Block, AV Node Effective Refractory Period and Ventricular Atrial Cycle Length Block, record and interpret EGM, perform Activate Coagulation Time testing throughout procedure
Operate: GE Cardiolab intracardiac recording system, Micropace II cardiac stimulator, Lifepak 20 defibrillator-pacer, GE Fluoroscopy equipment. Placement of Carto and ESI cardiac mapping electrodes and 12 lead EKG electrodes
Post-procedure responsibilities:
Monitor post procedure vital signs and Aldrete score, remove procedural sheaths up to 24 Fr venous and 9 Fr arterial and achieve hemostasis using manual pressure or mechanical devices. Assess patients’ post procedural distal blood flow, monitor for hematomas, provide post procedure education
Selected to attend GE Cardiolab superuser training in Milwaukee WI; trained 12 EP lab staff members on new EGM recording equipment
Presented educational lecture to electrophysiology personnel from Baptist Health Care and West Florida Hospital on long QT syndrome and channelopathies in preparation for the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners’ (IBHRE) Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) exam
