PROJECTS
Project Name —Reclaiming mineral Oils with activated Nanomaterials and Coconut Oil as alternative to Transformer oil
Transformers are essential parts of the power system. Oils used in the transformer for insulating and cooling purposes. Degradation of the oil causes sudden failure of transformer oil. So this work focuses on reclaiming old transformer oil by ageing and enhancing the oil by using Nanomaterial. Use of activated Nanomaterial shows a good enhancement of all the critical properties in the oil. This technique of reuse of insulating fluids may help to overcome oil shortages in near future. On the other hand, coconut oil's dielectric strength satisfies the standard values and has su cient tolerance to make it practically feasible. The higher flash point of coconut oil ensures the safety of the transformer operating at high temperature. But the viscosity range of coconut oil Patraganti, Kenetty,

is poor. Not only that, the pour point is also very high for coconut oil which leads to solidification in cold weather. So to use coconut oil as an alternative to the Transformer oil winterization process may be carried out to remove the higher melting glycerides as well as we can use pour point depressants such as Naphtha. However further tests need to be done.
