Resume

Clyde Austin Black III

Middleburg, FL

904-***-****

I’m writing this resume on a whim. I did not have a prepared resume. Many of the dates will be a close guess. This gives a fairly close timeline of my experience. There was a lot of bouncing around for all sorts of reasons. A lot of this work was sub sub contracting or employed by sub sub contractors, which is pretty unreliable and deals fall through pretty easy. So, even if I could remember the dates and every detail, it would bore you and drive me crazy. Some of the dates will overlap, that’s because they did overlap.

1990 - 1993

Middleburg High School Carpentry Class. We built portable classrooms. Also employed by the School Board on weekends and summer breaks, carpentry teachers and students from all four High Schools built classrooms.

1993 - 1994 / Bob Wyrick

Custom Carpentry - a residential framing company in Brunswick, GA Framed custom houses on St. Simmons Island. I had a bad fall, it took a few months to recover. First real experience, board toter to start with but did well quickly. 1994 - 1996

Johnson Sheetrock Service / David Johnson

Mostly hung drywall in multi family

1996 - 1997

Custom Carpentry / Bob Wyrick

Framed custom houses on St. Simmons Island again. We also installed siding and interior trim. We dug and poured the footings on most of them. We didn’t build a bunch of them at this rate. They were all 4000sf plus. I think I was involved with five of these houses. A couple times in the mid to late 1990’s I tried to work with framing crews around Jacksonville. It was mostly very high paced track homes, a much different level of quality (for worse) . You wouldn’t think 100 miles would make a big difference in how things are done, even terms for lumber species and types were different, terms for framing members were sometimes different. I went from working on custom homes with old fashioned (true generation gap) carpenters to seeing a bunch of thugs running around with toolbelts on but didn’t know how to use a square. Then consider I was very young and looked younger I never got a fair chance to show what I knew or what I could build. Left those jobs very frustrated every time 1996 - 1999

I did a lot of shingle roofs. This is what I went to after each try with a framing crew. I’ll try to list some of the roofing companies I worked for and some of the builders we did the roofs for. Sunbelt Roofing, Avondale Roofing, Coastal Roofing, All American Roofing, Acacia Roofing. Panitz Homes (later Beezer Homes), Maranda, DR Horton, DS Ware…… There was a buch 1998 - 1999

Clyde Black Drywall

Usually sub sub contact. Hung drywall in average size houses around Jacksonville. Also sub sub from Johnson Sheetrock Service mostly multi family in Gainsville. 1999 - 2004

Johnson Sheetrock Service.

Almost all multi-family work. Learned to finish drywall. Supervised subs, ordered materials, argued with inspectors Learned tennant separation UL’s

Learned to not argue with inspectors

2002

Grainger Truss Plant Green Cove Spring

I lost my drivers license so I took this job because I had a ride to get there. I only stayed until I could drive again. It was less than a year and it was still an interesting job. I built trusses. 2004 - 2010

Clyde Black Drywall

I offered drywall, siding, framing, interior trim, occasional roof repair. We did a lot of work for roof contractors that didn’t have carpenters for rotten repair during roof replacement. I framed several houses. Those jobs I also did the drywall, siding, interior trim. They got a free superintendent out of the deal.

Mostly remodel and addition work

The recession put me out

In 2007 I passed the State Building Contractor License exam In 2009 I applied for State Residential Contractor Licence inactive CRC1330472 it’s null and void now, I never used it. But I figure I should mention it. I applied for the Building Contractor but it went back and forth on the experience in commercial work. I had some experience with pouring concrete working with Third Construction. They wanted 20,000sf of concrete poured. I sent the application back with 20,000sf of concrete but it was on many jobs, 600sf or so at a time and some of it was stretching the truth anyway. They sent it back again and said it had to be all on one project. Well dadgum it, applied for Residential 2009 - 2014

Third Construction Company / Donny Edwards

We built additions, and remodels

We did a lot of retail space build out

We were a small crew and the owner almost never used subs. We poured concrete, framed…. All phases except HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.

2014 - 2015

Rescue Roofing / Jim Stead

Mostly tile roof repairs. We did a few tile roof replacements, we did a few shingle roof replacements, and we did a few metal roofs.

2015 - 2018

Neligan Construction Company / Brian Neligan

Hired for roof repairs until more carpentry work came about I did a lot of silly handyman rotten facia type repairs. After about 6 months I was estimating / selling jobs and managing. I sold additions, roof replacements and repairs.

2018 - present

Olde Florida Construction Service / Clyde Black

We have framed several average size houses, framed many additions, installed siding, done a lot of repair work, painted. We built (and shingled) several roofs over boat lifts for a dock company.
