SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Activities and responsibilities being handled as a pipe stress engineer:
Preparation of stress isometrics for the piping design group and support loadings for the structural group.
Review and comment on vendor's drawings for air fans, fired heaters and boilers, and all other equipment items as required.
Define sliding support locations for saddles of shell and tube and double pipe heat exchangers and of all horizontal vessels.
Ensure the adequacy of piping flexibility and support for all lines in the job and specify reinforcement at pipe specifications beyond that required to withstand the pressure in the line.
Specify location of all pipe supports, guides, anchors, limit shops and spring/spring hangers required by the piping system if the proper selection of such devices is either difficult and/or critical to the satisfactory performance of the systems.
Preparation of datasheets for engineered supports such as spring hanger & rigid struts
Provide the magnitude of operating and hydrostatic loads acting on supports, guides, and/or anchor.
Compare erection issues of piping isometrics and/or plans on all critical lines and a random sampling of all other lines to ensure that the final isometrics and piping drawings are in agreement with the latest stress comment for routing and supports.
Perform equipment nozzle load qualification using WRC 107 AutoPipe Nozzle Program
Perform other analysis such as flange leakage test, local stress checks and stress calculation for wind load and seismic load as required, ensure that each piping systems are within code allowable and prepare stress package with detailed stress isometrics with supporting calculations and documents.
Perform Surge, AIV (Acoustic Induced Vibration), and FIV (Flow Induced vibration) analysis.
Lead and interface with other discipline for technical matters and attending model reviews to resolve technical issues.
