Law Offices of Steven Clark, San Jose, CA Fall 2015 – Summer 2020 Law Clerk: Drafted motions, pleadings, complaints, subpoenas, and interrogatories for criminal and civil matters. Attended client meetings, depositions, mediations, court appearances and trial. Reviewed and organized client files and discovery. Corresponded with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel on personal injury matters. Performed case law research and prepared memoranda explaining such. Translated interviews in Spanish for post-conviction relief. Entrepreneurs’ Law Clinic, Santa Clara, CA Summer 2019 – Fall 2019 Student Associate: Performed transactions crucial to Bay Area startup companies. Counseled on entity formation; formed an LLC; drafted NDAs, employment and independent contractor agreements; and performed research on legal compliance. Advised on governance issues such as bylaws, conflicts of interest, and ethics violations. Worked directly with 5 companies and performed case studies on 15 others. Observed client interviews via Venture Accelerator Program. Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center, San Jose, CA Fall 2019 Student Associate: Interviewed low income clients and identified their employment-related disputes. Counseled clients on wage and hour issues, harassment, discrimination as well as retaliation and wrongful termination matters. Addressed FMLA and ADA issues on several occasions. Collaborated with supervising attorneys to problem-solve. Directly communicated legal advice, in both English and Spanish, to public and private sector clients along with referrals. Office of the City Attorney, San Jose, CA Spring 2019 Bar Certified Law Clerk: Conducted research relative to civil liability and code enforcement, drafted complaints, and answered discovery. Appeared in Superior Court on behalf of the City on municipal code violations. Negotiated with Public Defender as to sentencing. Prepared motions for TROs. Reviewed files at the Sheriff’s Office and drafted responses to Pitchess motions. Conducted a dangerous dog trial. Observed depositions and hearings. The Panetta Institute for Public Policy, Marina, CA Fall 2018 Fellow: One of three students selected from competitive pool of applicants. Gained first-hand experience and instruction in policy research. Produced three oral advocacy positions in mock hearing setting. Independently developed and presented a prescriptive policy paper on the federal deficit and debt. Analyzed current events under a public policy framework. Attended seminars covering three master courses: Money, Media and Politics; Legislative and Executive Politics and Policymaking; and Budget Policy. Engaged in debates and acquired skills to further consensus building. Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara, CA February 2015 – July 2017 Marketing and Program Assistant and Engaged Latina Leadership Activist Program Committee Member: Designed and facilitated educational relative to the Latino community. Collaborated with board to develop strategy and plan networking events. Delivered remarks at annual fundraiser. Attended community events to support policy initiatives.
