‘Construction of Surface Course/ Wearing Course by Using Plastic Waste in Flexible

Pavements’.

This study deals with the observation made towards use of plastic waste in

flexible pavements. Disposal of waste plastic has become a serious problem and burning of

plastic causes environmental pollution. Utilization of plastic by 6%, 8%, 10% by wight of

bitumen in bituminous mixes has proved that the properties of mix are improved. The

cleaned plastic waste is cut into 2-3mm size by shredding machine. The aggregate mix is

heated at temperature 130ºC and the plastic is coated over the aggregates. The plastic coated

aggregates are mixed with hot bitumen(120ºC-160ºC). The use of the innovative technology

will not only strengthen the road but also increases the road life as well as enhance abrasion

resistance, slip resistance and reduces the potholes problems, porosity etc.. I have chosen

this project to save our earth from Global warming and Environmental pollution.

“USE OF SUGARCANE FIBER IN STONE MATRIX ASPHALT”

Stone matrix asphalt (SMA) is a gap-graded mix which consist of CA in a mass content, FA,

Fillers, fibers as a stabilizer in a asphalt cover. The structure of SMA uses stone to stone link

in the mix by developing excessive content of CA and offers a uniform layer for load

distribution. The drawback of SMA is drain down of bitumen so to overcome this problem in

SMA we are making use of sugarcane fiber (5-8mm) 0.3% of total weight of mix and effort

made to check the Engineering performance of mixture with sugarcane fiber. SMA samples

were casted with sugarcane strings by mixing varies ratio of bitumen to know the optimum

bitumen content, Marshall properties or test are carried out and also other properties such as

drain down performance, Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) parameters were calculated. As

prescribed by the MORTH.
