Laboratory Technician 3

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Evidence data entry by entering the information provided by the submitting agency. The evidence is placed in lockboxes and retrieved in a timely manner. The chain of custody is initiated at the time of entry based on the date/time stamp on the submission form. The chain of custody is maintained by using the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) called Justice Trax. During the data entry process, all documents submitted with the evidence must be scanned into the case using LIMS. Each document is required to have the Division of Forensic Science (DOFS) case number to be visible to the scientist and reviewer. These documents, when needed for court purposes, can be printed from LIMS and used as reference while giving testimony. I am also the website coordinator for our laboratory. I add officers/agents/court employees to the agency web site for the purpose of obtaining a report. The reports are automatically published to the web site. When needed, I can transmit a report via electronic devices such as facsimile or electronic mail. I do not, however, have administrative access to the Laboratory Information System. The lab is required to hold some types of evidence for a certain amount of time. At the end of that time, the evidence is either destroyed or returned to the agency. We work with our agencies to insure evidence is properly packaged, labeled and sealed according to our guidelines. Any questions or concerns about services or condition of the evidence is documented and saved to the DOFS case, either by electronic mail or a conversation record. I am also responsible for inventory of the laboratory’s biological evidence. Most samples are from the Medical Examiner’s office and are being held for a two year period. Once the two year period has elapsed, the evidence can be destroyed. The chain of custody will reflect the destruction of the evidence. I also transfer evidence to other laboratories (inner lab transfers) using a common carrier while maintaining a chain of custody. I have had hazardous materials transportation training sponsored by the Dept. of Transportation. Included in training: Hazardous Materials Table, Shipping papers, Marking and Labeling, 2/3/2021 Print Resume
