Electrical, Instrument & Controls Engineer

Provides asset support for electrical equipment, field instruments and online analyzer applications, and physical property analyzers and sensors for process control, safety and environmental and regulatory requirements. Provides technical support for annual plant turnaround, construction, commissioning and start-up for projects and predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations. Analyze issues involved with control systems and implement improvements on analyzers, instrument control loops as required.

Assurance of technical advice to the Electrical & Instrumentation organization through the evaluation, analysis and monitoring of the operational behavior of the equipment and accessories, in order to achieve high availability and reliability in the operation of the same and contribute to a high factor of plant service with the consequent fulfillment of the production goals established by the Company. Responsible for compliance with predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance programs of plant instrumentation systems for process optimization with high safety and high-quality standard based on ISO-9000. Support development of operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, equipment failures, root causes analysis of plants’ instrumentation systems and recommendations to enhance the system and equipment reliability and profitability.

Extensive experience with DCS (migration and new installations), UPS, PLC (migration and new applications), BMS, ample experience with analyzers of pH, conductivity, silica, oxygen, hydrazine, methane, TOC, CO, CO2, dew point, oil in water, gas chromatographs, flash point, boiling point, fire & gas detection, and sample conditioning systems for analyzers, sample transport loops, shelters/racks, communication systems/transmission protocol (Modbus, Ethernet and others) and networking consideration for interface to DCS.

Research and technical reports of electrical, instrument and control equipment failures. Analysis of spare parts min/max. Mentor to technicians.

Responsible for electrical, instruments and analyzers maintenance and measuring control system for the operation of a 4500 Tons/day petrochemical plant (Two-train methanol).

Experience in risk analysis, SIS and FMECA, applications. Hazop studies, work procedures, knowledge in failure analysis techniques, handling equipment and calibration of measuring instruments.

Performed Technical and Quality Assurance audits of Electric, Instruments and analyzers.

Provided technical advice to the Instrumentation organization, performed assessments, analysis and monitoring of equipment and accessories operational performance in order to achieve high availability and reliability and contribute to a high factor service plan with the consequent fulfillment of production targets set by the Company.

Co-led the Upgrade of the Yokogawa Centum DCS (migration to Centum VP), covered all aspects of instrumentation, interaction with Yokogawa Supplier to develop project specification, installation details, configuration, equipment tests, commissioning and start-up of new Methanol train (2500 Tons/day). Also covered pneumatic and electrical hook-ups, panel design and control room/plant layouts. Total project cost US$ 10MM.

Responsible for the implementation of a preventive and corrective maintenance program for the electrical, instruments, analyzers and process optimization for a new 2500 Tons/day (US$ 400M) petrochemical plant (methanol) with high integral safety and high-quality standard assurance based on ISO-9000-

Investigation and technical reports due to failure of instruments and equipment.

Analysis of obsolescence of electrical, instruments, analyzers and gas chromatographs. Min/max spare parts analysis.

Executed the replacement of 2-synthesis/reformed gas chromatographs. Project cost US$ 300K.

Upgraded lineal heat detection system in 5 methanol storage tanks and 9 interstage gas compressor vessels, total cost: US$ 100K.

Replaced 134 transmitters (Press, Flow, Level, Temp). Total cost US$ 700K.

Installed 1 Silica Analyzer for Demineralized Water Plant US$ 30K.

Installed, upgraded, migrated, programmed several A-B PLC s, SCADA for Demineralized Water Plant and other ancillary services. Total US$ 80K.

Executed the replacement of 8 pH analyzers, and 4 conductivity analyzers. Project cost: US$ 90K.

Improvements in the start-up ignition process of two 65 Tons/hour steam boilers.

Installed 6 pneumatic actuators for motorized valves for gas compressor blocking and venting. Total project cost: US$ 500K.

Improvements in level meters for methanol tank farm.
