Summary: Dr Nabil Agha is a British Professor and Landscape and Horticulture Specialist with over 34 years of experience in the UK and GCC states. He has managed award-winning landscape projects in United Arab Emirates. His expertise in environmental sciences, particularly in sustainability, natural systems assessments, conservation and preservation of native plants proved invaluable in many projects. He has been involved in establishing botanic gardens in UAE and in Jordan, which his experience in arid horticulture proved essential. He has developed reed beds for purification of treated sewage effluents as natural and sustainable system. Also has shown expertise in mitigation of dredging and civil works harmful effects to mangrove forest trees. Professor Agha has earned his PhD degree from the University of Reading, UK, (1986). Reading is ranked in the top 1% of best universities in the world in agricultural sciences and research. He is Chartered Biologist and Member of the Institute of Biology, London, UK. He has been in executive positions with international engineering consultants, as well as with major contractor companies. WORK EXPERIENCE

2014 to Date Head of Landscape, Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (Shair and Partners), Doha, Qatar. Management and supervision of Coast Guard Base Building At Daayen Landscape Project. The project estimated cost of QR 2 billion, of which landscape is about 10%. State of the art landscape, including hardscape, furniture of all types, water features, ornaments, pocket gardens, lighting and soft scape of many types of palms, trees, lawns, ground covers, gravel, pebbles, boulders and plants, irrigation systems and pavements. Supervision of main contractor and sub-contractors performances and all as per contract documents, drawings, design and allocated budget. Reviewing of design, alternative design, submissions of materials, project control, budget control, negotiations of budget with the client and with the contractors. Landscape program, scheduling of work progress and submitting of reports as per contract documents. I have raised the work standards of both constructions and maintenance and to the satisfactions of the client through direct management and daily supervision. Health, Safety and Environment were all observed and implemented. Recruitment and training of staff. I have achieved completion of projects on time, on specified budget, and as per specifications and with full satisfactions of the client. Overseeing and training of subordinates, recruitments of staff and monitoring of work progress. I have achieved savings of QR 200 million in value engineering assessments.

2012-2014 Deputy Chief Resident Engineer-Landscape, Dorsch Consult, Doha, Qatar. Management of Lusail City Landscape Project, Lusail Real Estate Development Company. This prestigious development of Lusail City project amounting to QR 500 billion, of which the landscaping for the whole city would be costing QR 50 billion. The landscape project comprised of 39 packages to cover the whole Lusail City. Hardscape, soft scape, water features, ornaments, pocket gardens, night scape and much more are all included in this huge and fascinating landscape project. I have managed 123 staff, including SREs, REs, Sr. Engineers and technicians to supervise the development of this project. Reviewing of design, alternative design and approval of materials. Tendering, approvals of the contractors and contractors submittals and scheduling of work progress, sourcing of materials and approvals, all as per design, drawings and specifications. Project control, budget control, and coordination with PM/CM consultants, contractors and with subcontractors. HSE were observed and implemented. All accomplished with full satisfactions of the client. I have achieved savings of QR 800 million in value engineering assessments.

2008-2012 Landscape Manager, HEDLEY International Emirates Contracting L.L.C, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Construction and maintenance of several landscape projects: 1. Lake Preservation Project, International City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The client is Nakheel-Dubai Palm Developers L.L.C., one of the world’s largest and most innovative real estate developers. This is landscape and environmental project to develop Al Warsan Lake which is a popular place to visit for birdwatchers, at an approximate cost of AED 900 million, Different lake habitats, external landscaping and extensive plantings, retention pond and free flight aviary, all to allow the visitors to explore the secret world of birds, migration, wetlands plant species and wildlife. The wetland would also function as a storm water treatment facility, cleaning a portion of the storm water discharged from adjacent development areas. Reed beds as natural and sustainable filtration system was designed and developed to remove excess nutrients and chemical contaminants from incoming water. 2. International City Landscaping, Dubai. 3. Landscaping project of Dubai Maritime City belonging to the same above client (Nakheel). 4. Landscaping project of Ras Al Khor in Dubai, and the client for this huge project is RTA, and for the total cost of AED 1 billion. Management of all the above projects in terms of work force, budget control, project control, recruitment of staff and training, negotiations, reviewing of design and suggesting alternative designs and approvals, sourcing of materials, availability and approvals. Regular meetings and coordination with consultants, subcontractors, client, and submittals of all required reports as per contract documents. I have applied my vast knowledge and experience in achieving sustainability, and applying new designs and methods which was approved by the client to develop reed beds for purifications of treated sewage effluents as natural and sustainable system.

2004-2008 Project Manager Assistant, Parsons International Limited, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Management and supervision of an award-winning landscape project. Management of Abu Dhabi International Airport, UAE. The estimated cost of this project at that time was AED 300 million. The project was initiated with the client: Abu Dhabi Municipality from the design and progressing to the accepted final design, approvals of alternative designs to the construction. Tendering and appointment of the contractors, reviewing submittals, sourcing of materials and approvals. Recruitment of staff, training and supervision of subordinates. Managements of project control, budget control, scheduling and work progress, weekly and monthly reports to the client, coordination with all concerned parties including contractors, subcontractors and designers. I have achieved completion of the project as per the allocated budget, on time and all as per contract documents and drawings.

2003-2004 Chief Horticulturalist, Hyder Consulting Middle East Limited, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Supervision of landscape projects during execution. Ensuring the highest standards of excellence in horticultural work, inspection of planting stock, reviewing contractor’s submissions, monitoring of plant performance, reviewing and approval of plant lists and materials during design stages. Selection of plants which are suitable to the gulf hash environment, and developed extensive plants list which are tolerant to salinity and saline environment, and was published in Landscape Magazine Middle East.

1996-2003 Senior Horticultural Consultant, Philip Swindells Limited, International Horticultural Consultants, Harrogate, United Kingdom. A number of projects were undertaken for clients in the Middle East. The most prestigious is the development of the new Sharjah Botanical Garden, UAE. Palace and university garden projects have also been undertaken along with extensive redesigning of urban green spaces.

Producing television programme series on horticulture and landscape designs for the Middle East.
