M.Tech Semester Project

1) Title : Experimental studies on topology of steel column under axial compression.[experimental work]

Duration : 3 months

Experimental study on closed and open steel column sections each under uniaxial compression is presented. The study focuses on the determination of buckling and ultimate strength characteristics due to topology of different steel column sections with similar column slenderness ratio and fixed boundary conditions. Geometrical imperfections in the column are measured. Based on test data, axial load-axial deformation and axial load-lateral deflection plots are presented. 2) Title : Numerical studies on topology of steel column under uniaxial compression.[software work]

Numerical study of four steel column sections each under uniaxial compression is presented. The study focuses on the determination of buckling and ultimate strength characteristics due topology of column sections with similar cross sectional area and having varying width to thickness ratio. The column section is fixed at one end and hinged at other end. Linear analysis is carried out using software. Mesh convergence study is presented.

3) Title : Seismic behavior of mass irregular structures.[software work] The seismic analysis of various mass irregular structures is presented. Comparison between regular and mass irregular structures is done on the basis of base shear and story drift values. Software used : SAP

B.E. Project

1) Title : Use of waste polypropylene fibers for strengthening of structural members.[experimental work]

Utilization of waste polypropylene fibers for enhancing mechanical properties of concrete and

. strengthening of structural member is presented in this project. Load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete column is increased by using column jacketing technique with the help of fiber reinforced concrete.
