June 2009 to PRESENT

After an internal transfer within the Covenant Health System, I assumed a clinical role performing hospital and office work for the pediatric orthopaedics division. I round, consult, and admit patients in the hospital. In the clinic, I conduct fracture care clinics to alleviate the surgeon’s clinic load of mostly new and chronic patients. As for the surgeon’s clinic load, I participate in clinic at those dedicated times to complete direct admissions, preoperative evaluations, casting, externalized pin removals, coordination of care with other providers.

Community Health Center of Lubbock

January 2008 to April 2010

This on-call position allowed me to work with an underserved population in a family practice setting. It required that I provide an exquisitely well-thought out plan of healthcare for this clientele. Because of their few and far-between healthcare encounters, my skills as a provider called for creative ways to stretch the dollar and access supplies and medication for these patients.

This job opportunity entailed clinical as well as administrative responsibilities. I broadened my knowledge base by overseeing the clinical component of the practice. In addition, I continued direct patient care in a more autonomous role due to the Wellness Center being a nurse practitioner-managed clinic. It allowed me to work with an underserved population and offer care where gaps existed in the population’s healthcare.

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Covenant Health System: Office of James V Higgins, MD, Pediatric Gastroenterologist

April 8 2001 to February 2003

This was my first dedicated role in the pediatric realm as a nurse practitioner. I honed in on the skills specific to gastroenterology. I would see new and established patients during clinic days. As well, I would work alongside the physician in preparing and organizing information during procedures and upon discharge.

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Covenant Health System: Michael MacAdams, MD, Adult Endocrinologist

March 2000 to August 2002

During my time in this practice, I expanded my knowledge of endocrinology, particularly medical conditions I dealt with in my previous family practice settings. This job opportunity provided deeper insight of the medical management of many of the clients encountered by a family nurse practitioner.

PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENTS: Through my experiences as a family nurse practitioner, I have worked diligently to achieve a balance that can be placed in any situation or circumstance. With the many demands that an advanced practice nurse must conform and address effectively, attaining this balance is a necessity and a valued lesson that is daily task in today’s healthcare. Keeping this in mind, I have the capabilities to optimally serve the listed organizations and occupational responsibilities of an advanced practice nurse. Expanding my roles through organizational functions and broadening my nursing experience will facilitate my goal of servicing the healthcare needs of West Texas in a variety of settings.
