Summary

Miguel started in 1999 as a so ware developer and in 2002 he co-founded a network solution provider in West Africa. Further on, in 2007 he co-founded what would be the first Wi-Fi ISP in Cape Verde and the first company to break a 21 years local telecom monopoly. Five years later, Miguel accepted the invitation from Ezelink Telecom to revolutionize the company strategy in the Intelligent Hotspot, IoT and Smart City solutions as Director of Technology. During his tenure at Ezelink Telecom, the company launched several innovative unique products that did not go unnoticed and made Ezelink one of the references for Wi-Fi and Smart City solutions in the region. Since 2015, Miguel has been working in Silicon Valley and been involved in several projects to help Service Providers monetize their voice business by finding the best intersection point between real-time communications, collaboration, IoT, Machine Learning, and Ai. Currently, he is Vice President of Product Line Management at Vidyo an Enghouse Company. His career also includes participation in the United Nations ESCAP as part of the regional connectivity task force and young entrepreneurship.

Built and managed a team of 30 R&D engineers and acted as a solution architect and product manager for new products based on market trends and requirements. Cabocom S.A. has two areas; one is the IT consulting, the other is WiFi ISP, it started in 2008 a er getting the ISP license in Cape Verde and became the first company to break a 20-year monopoly in Cape Verde. Designed the network and services architecture, lead the team that developed the in-house OSS/BSS systems for authentication, security and business management. My primary duties were to drive innovation by creating new services leveraging the Wi-Fi technologies that would increase the subscriber base and revenue streams. During the course of 4 years, Cabocom went from a small provider to the 3rd largest private network in Cape Verde. In 2010 Cabocom was one of the first Wi-Fi ISP’s to have all the OSS/BSS hosted as a cloud service which allowed a frictionless expansion of their network coverage and services anywhere in the country. The company was sold in 2014 and still operates in Cape Verde as one of the main alternatives to the incumbent service provider. I was until April 2018 an active member of the board. CTO / Founder

N-gate was a company that focused on IT Consulting. Started in 2002, with a tiny team and in just less than two years got more than 70% of Sal Island market. Reported only to my business partner that had 50% shares also. Managed both sales and professional services team. Founded the company along with my partner and was responsible for all the IT projects. While my business partner was responsible for all the commercial area, I was responsible for managing dozens of different company networks, ensuring for a reliable and professional service that helped this company grow significantly just in 3 years. Smart cities are not smart without connectivity. That fact is that you need an infrastructure that is easily accessible to everyone. Wi-Fi became the butter over the bread for the smart city concept. Inexpensive

(compared to other mediums) and constantly evolving. Government and private entities need to find a way to deploy the infrastructure and at the same time make is sustainable. The solution would come from turning your smart city network into a multipurpose network, combine multiple parties which can generate revenue to sustain the network.
