PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Whale Satellite Tag – Worked on a tag for my senior design project that can be shot into right whales via an air rifle, penetrating the blubber and staying in long enough to track the whale’s migration patterns. An air-powered testing machine was designed as part of this project.

Optimized Scrapping in Manufacturing Process – Developed a more organized scrapping process in an electric power steering motor factory that allowed problems with stator welding to be identified and fixed quickly.

Worked in the manufacturing department of Nexteer, helping to ensure that the power steering motor assembly line ran smoothly. Developed problem solving skills and industry experience, as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel and Minitab. Took a course (Problem Solving for Team Leaders) which improved critical thinking skills and helped me learn to problem solve on the fly.

Product Engineering Intern, Nexteer Automotive, May 2019-August 2019

Worked with the I-shaft group and led studies to determine correlations between different parameters. Also headed up a study to determine the correct course for heat treatment on a yoke. Dealt a lot with different departments to accomplish these studies and got a good feel for the full engineering process from design to manufacturing.

Worked to help the company prepare for an IATF audit, compared control plans, work instructions, PFMEA documents, and more to make sure that they lined up. I learned a lot about the inner workings of the manufacturing world through this experience.
