Suzette L. Katchko, APNP 715-***-**** *********@***********.***
Professional Summary:
I announced to the world at age 5 that I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up and that was to be a nurse! While I was quizzed about other professional possibilities, I really never deviated from my career in medicine.
I started as a CNA while in high school and while an undergraduate student in college. After obtaining my BSN from UW-Madison, I was off to Chicago to work on a medical surgical floor. After completing the RN advancement ladder at my hospital, I transferred to the surgical ICU. There I became one of the charge nurses.
Next, after moving back to Wisconsin, I next worked in our local hospital ED for 19years as a staff nurse. As the environment was ever changing I found the work rewarding and challenging. I also became the Oneida county EMS education coordinator, an ACLS instructor and was the primary hospital coordinator for the internal pursuit drug study investigation with a focus on Integrelin, a glycoprotein IIB/IIIA receptor drug to use during acute MI’s. Also during my career in the ED, I obtained my CEN, TCRN and did ground ambulance transfers for any and all types of patients-unstable MI’s to severe trauma patients.
Always wanting to know my patients long term outcomes prompted me to pursue a more primary care focus. Here I was able to combine my passion for healthcare and teaching! I began work in an internal medicine department as the second ever NP hired in internal medicine. My practice which included admitting, managing and discharge hospitalized patients. I also precepted several NP students. After about 5 years, a need to have a providers focused on diabetic patients. While continuing with my regular practice, I began to work with many types of diabetics including insulin ‘pumpers’, transplant patients and gestational diabetes.
Next, I began work on the Potawatomi reservation with a focus on managing diabetics, CV and renal disease. I also began to develop home telemedicine diabetic follow up and prevention programs with a focus on the grade school and junior high children.
